What's new

A new wet shaver in the family

Good Afternoon Gents:

I have noticed that my 23 year old son who is back in the house after graduating from college, has been watching me shave once in a while, and "taking notes" on my DE shaving routine. Last week he said that he was interested in getting into the DE routine , and I said I would gladly help him procure the equipment and teach him as best as I could.

A quick call to Tony at TGN was for a Silvertip Grade-A 22 mm bulb shape knot and a Faux Ivory & Red Stone handle. I took the opportunity to order the same knot for my self as well, but with the Faux Ivory / Butter Scotch handle, because as we all know, one can never heave too many shave brushes! I actually had a brand new OS shaving mug that I bought about 25 years ago, and I loaded it with a puck of Van Der Hagen soap (used the original OS puck a long time ago). I also gave him a Merkur 33c razor that I purchased about 6 months ago and never used, along with a package of 10 IP Reds. The brush and handle should be here today, so all I have to do is glue the knot in, let it dry, and he's in business! I don't know who's more exited........him or me!

He also told me something I was unaware of.......a store in one of the local Malls recently opened up, and apparently it's a shaving store. He did not remember the name, but rest assured Gents, I will mosey in there and check it out!

Congrats on snagging a potential convert! The more, the merrier.

I suspect that shaving store is an Art of Shaving shop. Some nice proprietary products (creams, soaps, etc.), a few overpriced Merkur razors, and a lot of Gillette cartridge razors with customized handles (they are owned by Proctor & Gamble, Gillette's parent company). Bring lots of cash or your credit cards. I was in one yesterday and did treat myself to a jar of their Sandalwood Shave soap...nice stuff! :thumbup1:

Congratulations Bob.. You must teach him the way of the force, and resist the darkside of the Pro-Glide!!:a45:

Well Gents:
,
The TGN package arrived just as Tony said it would and I have glued the Silvertip Knots into the BEAUTIFUL Ivory like handles. I set the lofts at 50mm each and they should be ready for the big day tomorrow. I'll let you fellas know how my son makes out.

Well, I have had MY 2nd shave using my new TGN brush and I can report that it looks, performs and feels GREAT! My son is going to take the plunge this evening, so Ill let you know how he makes out. Hopefully the styptic pencil I have standing by (hidden of course) will not be needed.

D/E Bob

My son took his first wet and DE shave today and did amazingly well. I was not in the house when he decided to do it (probably better off) and he got a BBS with only one small nick on the third pass. He had watched me shave a few times, but I never imagined he would do so well his first time out. He was so exited afterward, he called me on my cell phone to tell me about it; I was pretty proud! I sent him the link to this website, so we may have a new member soon............

Congrats Bob
Having a son follow in your foot steps is what Fatherhood is all about and well worth everything...at any price, and this 'meeting of the minds' and bonding is 'priceless'. :yesnod:

Pictures baby, pictures!!

Congrats on keeping a manly tradition going strong from one generation to the next.
My boy is only 7, but I think if I stick to it I can have him wet shaving by the time he's 10
