What's new

A Interesting find but an overall bust for a first time razor safari

I was bored last Saturday and I was browsing the B&B forums looking at what other guys have posted on their brush and razor finds, and I admit I was a little jealous with how much loot they where getting. With Paypal being an @$$ and Prices on ebay being what they are I decided to put on my pith helmet and try my luck at two flea markets that I know of. I was hoping for a Gillette NEW Long Comb but anything would be nice. Long story short: I found 4 or 5 shave brushes (didn't get them, handles where crap), NO vintage safety razors (which sucks), and an unopen shipping tin for a Gillette Trac II "Demonstrator Razor". Which I did get for $2.02.

here are the pics:

From what I understand the demo razor is still in the tin since you need a can opener to open the container (and something rattles inside when I shake the tin).
Not what I was looking for but an Interesting find all the same.

Yes, interesting find. Do you really have a pith helmet? I've always wanted one. :w00t:

Yes and no. As a kid I had an over-sized pith helmet (I think it was a toy) but I don't know where it is now, I was trying to set the mood for my story. You know, mighty hunter setting out to get a worthy trophy to show off to his friends.:biggrin1:

I wouldn't complain, thats a pretty cool find, more than I've found. BTW, Trac ii was the only cart that I liked.

True, To find anything interesting on my first hunt is better then nothing. and Trac II carts are good. I have a Bumpfighter handle that's great with Trac II carts.

That's not bad. Wish I came across that. Nos? Ha! Any day. Congrats. Like my Track razor back in the day. Gave a decent shave:)
Congtats on your find.

I remember was I was 18 getting a Atra sent to my around my birthday....I thought it was cool to get a free razor back then!

Over the past few weeks, I've taken up with the Trac][/Super][ carts, using a ritzy, heavy, gold plated handle I got off the 'bay. I have been getting great shaves, and the same vintage Super][ cart I started with is holding up very well. The Super][ was my first razor, and I'm kind of enjoying going back to it.

Alas, I'm staying at the GF's tonight, and that means I'll be shaving with the slim tomorrow, but the twin-blade cart excursion has been pretty fun.

Dirty Donuts are so Good.
You will enjoy that Trac II razor. And while it is a cartridge, it is also vintage and has nostalgia. If and when I use a cartridge, traveling, etc. It is a Trac II with a vintage handle.

Thanks for the replies guys! Just a FYI, I am NOT going to open the tin and use the razor inside. why? Well for a few reasons. One, because it looks great as-is and would be a shame to ruin the tin. Two, I already have a Bumpfighter handle that works great with Trac II carts.

The Bump Fighter was my last cart before DEs. I think it was the high water mark for the Cartridge razor design.

Of course you shouldn't open the can, it ruins all the fun (and the value).
