A good cartridge razor

If anyone is looking for a decent quality but competitively priced cartridge razor I can recommend the persona Triflexxx. I picked up the Tesco Uk branded version for an overnight kit and having given it a try out with brush/ soap can confirm it gives a very good three pass shave. Lot cheaper than the Gillette versions often talked about as travel razors, no less performance. A keeper for those times you want one.

I used to use the Tesco version before I got my DE, it was definitely one of the better cartridge razors I tried and not too expensive.

The Tri-Flexx is ok as far as cartridge razors go. The Tri-flexx carts are compatible with the Gillette Sensor. IMO, the Sensor with the genuine Gillette carts is the best of the cartridge razors --better than the M3 or Fusion.

I recommend a fine DE with a top tier blade, though.

I tried the TracII, and the Atra. I wasn't convinced by either one. Something about the Sensor was right, however (although the Sensor3 was no improvement), and I used them most of the time for about 18 years.

(I continued using my DE occasionally, and my shaving soap lather, but somewhat less often than every DE shave.)

I've recounted how on B&B the head kept falling off the Mach3 that I tested. IMO, even though I didn't like Atras much, they were better than Mach3s. From what I can tell, a Fusion is just a Mach3 on steroids.

After five months of reformation shaving, with all manner of classic hardware, a Gem MM Clog Pruf shaves me better than anything else, and a Schick G8 model Injector runs very close behind it. The Injector STYLE is the obvious origin for all of the multibladed cartridge-headed "modern" razors, and it was first produced well before WW2. It's still a better design than any but (perhaps) the Sensor(2).

I have several ATRA handles and Personna refills for them. ATRA is a good cart.
+1 - It doesn't have so many blades irritating the skin as with the more modern muti-bladed monsters, especially if doing multiple passes. The Dollar General carts that fit this razor are only 6/$1.50 and others are out there cheap as well. Kmart actually has triple and quad blade carts that fit these handles, but at nearly Mach 3 prices.

I used this setup when I gave up my DE for Lent. I got a SAS with two passes and no discomfort. DFS was attainable with two passes and some touching up.

Agreed, a Sensor with the Sensor 3 cartridge is as good as carts got. I actually regret throwing it away.

I don't have much interest in going back to any carts, but I am kind of tempted to try the Personna ones. Partially because I like their DE blades a lot and partially because of curiosity/trying something different.

I agree about the Sensor--never tried the Atra/TracII, but I've tried just about everything else by Schick and Gillette, and the Sensor was the best cartridge. I even went back to them for a while a couple years ago. But even those were getting pretty expensive and I ended up looking for alternatives.

I also agree about the sensor...adding a third blade and the so called comfort strips did nothing to improve it. I'm glad they still sell it with two. More than two blades gives more irritation for me.

Someday if the cartridges price drop, I mean 50 for 15$, maybe I'll go back.....improbable but still. If I had to go back hummm I'd probably go for a Mach 3 or a Sensor Excel, definitively not a Fusion or Quattro.
