A gift for my father

Together with my siblings we are treating my dad with a shaving set for Christmas.

It includes: Merkur 33c, Palmolive shaving stick, Col conk almond, 5 Tree platinums, 10 Wilkinson swords, 5 Treet Platinums, 10 Lab blues and 10 Shaving Shack's Israeli made blades and

the last but not the least:

A brush I made. I have posted this handle here a year ago and it's been sitting in the cupboard ever since. It's black palm finished with CA and polished with micro-mesh. Now I decided to finish it. The knot is 22mm TGN Silvertip bulb set at 50mm. I got jealous of the brush so had to give it a test use before giving it away! It's definitely a nice brush. But I think my TGN finest is much better. Softness of the tips is about the same for both, but the finest offers much more backbone. Another minus side for this brush is that the handle is super slippery! Looks very nice though IMO.

Merry Christmas to you all!

That is a good looking brush. Sounds like a great shaving set. A gift anyone would be thrilled to receive.

Beautiful work! Your father will enjoy it for years. There is no gift quite like a handmade one.

I have to agree that the TGN Finest is a better knot. People seem to get sucked in by the idea that the silvertip is going to be more luxurious, forgetting it is a tool and needs to have certain properties. Maybe it's the term "silvertip" that does it. After all, it's got such an appealing sound to it! But for me at least, the Finest is just that, the finest!

Tomorrow we'll see what he thinks of it. Here in Finland we celebrate Christmas on Christmas eve. I'll keep you posted! He has never tried traditional wet shaving but is always complaining how bad that canned goo is and uses the cheapest possible disposables.

I had never heard of a "CA Finish" before reading this post. After I googled it, I bought a small tube of Crazy Glue, and am in the process of trying a test on a scrap of cherry.
The little tube of glue was expensive. Are there any sources of CA that are less expensive?

Check Rockler woodworking. I bought my 2,5oz bottle for about $8 when in the states. They have thin, medium and thick. I would go for medium, it works for most purposes!
