A couple new single rings for my collection

I received a couple of single rings this afternoon which cleaned up nicely with a little silver cream and neverdull. The 1906 date code 399043 came with a case and if I am not mistaken the silver blade holders are a ,ismatch? The other one a 1911 I never would have bought uncased but it has the extra sent in for repair date stamp on the head.

That's a beautiful set! While the blade cases wouldn't be the ones that originally came with that set, there is an explanation for them. When Gillette started selling their "New Process" blades in 1908 the individually wrapped blades came packaged in those metal blade cases inside of a larger cardboard box. So as people bought replacement blades for these early sets it would have been pretty logical to get rid of the older cardboard sleeves in favor of these much more sturdy metal replacements.

are these desirable? I watched one go for £3 today and thought about bidding on it, but I just bought an old type so thought it would be the same head

Turtle are you talking about the double ring? If so I used better judgement and stopped without sending the additional funds and will let the Bay deal with the seller. That double ring situation literally broke my heart, I was walking on sunshine when I won that beauty and then felt the boot to the face.
