A Better Briefing Brief

Like many American males (any guy) I am in search of a better pair of underwear. I currently wear Fruit of The Loom (3x 54-56) bubba size and the elastic has gone slack. I have thought of the idea of polyester boxer briefs (mentioned by a friend) who travels, but with Texas being as hot as it is, I"m not sure that is an option. Might start a fire...!

What recommendations do you fellow B&Bers have for a big guy like myself? A different blend, style etc.? I have a pair of Jockey Boxer Briefs (100% Cotton) and they are alright. Anything in the style of briefs? Or is there a more professional style of underwear I should try?

Happy Trails,

If cost is no issue, Patagonia makes awesome briefs and boxer-briefs. I got a pair for xmas one year (semi-joke gift) and they are great.

Though expensive compared to cheap cotton underwear, I think the Ex Officio boxer briefs are well worth it. Wonderfully comfortable! I got a couple of pairs at REI for a trip to a tropical country. When I returned home, I got rid of all of my cotton briefs and replaced them with more Ex Officios. Two years later, I wonder how I put up with cotton boxers and briefs all those years!

I'm just a size below you and I am interested in seeing what's available.

Alas, neither of the above meets your/my size requirements.

I can tell you what to avoid; the Harbor Bay briefs at Casual Male. Crap.

They keep things where they need to be and they never stretch out of shape. I've been rotating through the same 6 or 8 pair for about four years now.

I did find a better (boxer brief) from Duluth Trading Co. they make a boxer brief that goes up to 4x and it is called. Buck Naked Boxer Brief. Highly recommended for those who live in hot climates like I do (Texas) and are in and out of the heat. It is a little difficult to access when using the restroom as the fly is squarely in front and not to the side like a cotton brief. Give it a try!

I didn't check size availability, but I love compression shorts. They fit snuggly, don't lose their elasticity, wick moisture away and keep you from chaffing, which for someone with pretty thick legs, I find great. Here is a link to Under Armour brand. I find that you can get Starter brand at Wal*Mart for about $10 a pair in the athletic clothing area. They don't work quite as well but are a fraction of the price. I wear them to work as well as for exercise. FWIW, I wear slacks and a dress shirt to work.

I ditched Fruit of the Loom couple years back and replaced with Calvin Klein exclusively. They have many different fabrics, some are 100% some are mix etc. but yeah they're very nice IMO. Oh and they're a killer for women lol.

The Under Armour brand is all i wear anymore. Totally cut down on the whole swampy feeling when working in extreme heat. The way they wick moisture away from the crotch section is unbeatable compared to Hanes and FOTL brands that i used wear.

These are pretty much identical to the Ex Offico briefs I recommended earlier in this thread. Made of a wicking polyester fabric, great for hot climes, but I wear them year-round. Either one should serve you well. I bought mine at REI.

I have really been debating trying those out. nice that they worked out for you.

@cluelessdude

Do KC come in big men's sizes? Does any of the underwear mention come In a big men's size?

I have been wearing Jockey Seamless waistband 100% cotton boxer briefs for a long time. They are very comfortable, but tend to stretch out as the day goes by. I recently tried Jockey Stretch classic boxer briefs (90% cotton/10% spandex). They were a little too snug for my liking and were not comfortable in the crotch area, mainly due to the way the fly is constructed, very tight and snug in that area. Too many layers of fabric in the crotch area. I want a performance boxer brief that is not super snug, especially in the crotch area. The crotch area has to be very comfortable. I want to be able to wear them with dress slacks (office environment and lots of sitting), jeans, shorts, working out, intimate settings :), etc. I want to give Under Armour a shot. I am looking at the Under Armour Men's Original 3" Boxer Jocks. I don't like a long inseam.

Is the crotch area comfortable?

I know, $25 a pair. I live in Fort Worth, and these are all I wear in the summer. They are a snug fit, but they keep the boys cool and supported.

I went with Champion duo dry but yeah... same result.. I chucked all my whitey tighties.

Update: I went to Sports Authority and bought a few pairs of UA Orginal Boxerjock Boxer briefs...M size both in the 3" and 6" inseams. They feel nice right off the bat. According to the size chart...M 30-32" and L 34-36". I wear a M 32-34" the Jockey boxer briefs that I currently wear. I should probably size up to L since many of the reviews say that the sizing runs small and the M are kind of snug. And which inseam to you recommend for office (a lot of sitting), general and exercise use? The Jockey boxer briefs that I wear are some where in between 3" and 6" inseam. I am lending towards the 3" for the streamlined look and wear, but concerned that they may bunch up too much when sitting a lot in the office.

+1. Not only are they attractive and functional, but last a long time without losing their shape, so to speak. They are the brand I prefer.
