What's new

'73 Super Adjustable

My mom strikes again! She found it at an antique mall I frequent quite a bit, guess I just missed it. It's a T2 Super Adjustable. Not too pretty looks-wise, but the doors open great and all the numbers have a positive click to them. Will Scrubbing Bubbles hurt the paint in the numbers and on the handle? I'll upload a picture later when I get home.

Yes, SB can eat the paint out of the numbers on an adjustable. The best cleaning method for these razors is some Dawn dish soap, directly applied to the razor, followed by a soak in very hot (almost boiling) water. Scrub with a toothbrush. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Don't boil the razor, don't soak it in vinegar, or use bleach. Hot, soapy water and elbow grease is the answer.

Mom? Unfair! I demand you give it to um, the general B&B forum(starting with me of course) for the sake of fairness and start over.:biggrin1:
Congrats!

LOL! What can I say, my mother is a bloodhound when it comes to antique malls. It is almost an unfair advantage. She knows how to scour those places, I'm but a mere amateur.

And here's a picture:

Thanks for the cleaning tips, I'll be sure to heed them.

I've heard that the settings on these are a tad milder than the same on a Slim.

Damn. the SB explains why my painted numbers are only half painted now. Oh well. some paint was missing already.

Based on my personal experience, the numbers 1 to 8 on a Slim or 195 Adjustable are the same as 2-9 on the SA, so you lose the highest, most aggressive setting, and gain a milder notch below the "1" on the older pair of Gillettes.

Once you have cleaned it with soap and hot water, a mild polishing of the head components with MAAS or Simichrome will bring out some shine. That looks to be a solid short-handle SA . . . Enjoy!!

(And yes, the SA needs to be set one number higher than a Slim or Fat Boy to have the same blade gap.)

I did two hot water & Dawn soaks, and it got all of the crud out of the handle knurling. But the head has quite a bit of scale and maybe some plate loss. I might devise a way to soak only the head in some Scrubbing Bubbles. All this might be moot, because I loaded a blade in it to test the locking mechanism, and it looks to me the blade gap is uneven on one side. So, to compare, I loaded that blade into my Slim, and now it looks like IT has an uneven blade gap on one side! I could be just seeing things, at least in the Slim's case, but the SA looks like it needs some work. I'll see if I can take some pictures this evening and see if y'all are seeing the same thing.
