55' and 56' red tips

Hey there-

I recently fished a couple red tips out of the 'bay and they cleaned up nicely. I did have a question regarding the bar on the edges (perpendicular to the saftey bar). The razor on the right is a 55 and the one on the left is a 56. The razor on the left has a one piece side bar and the newer one has a two piece. Any idea why that is? Also - that bar seems more sensitive to corrosion as it is the only area that seems to have plate loss on that razor. Thanks

The caps are welded to these arms, sometime the weld got loose and they fall.

Hmm. When I look at the plates they are very different thicknesses. If the "split" one is missing an end plate - it would look over twice as thick as the earlier model. That certainly could be that case. I was wondering if these were manufacted differently- like the difference between the 41' and 46' Rangers or something.

Harvest an end cap from a donor US Super Speed and solder it back in place.

Yep, that's exactly how it fits. As others have said, you can find a donor SS and replace it. But it's not strictly necessary. Most of all, enjoy those razors. For someone who had no interest in a Red Tip, it's become one of my favorites.
