40s Superspeed blade pairing

I have spent many months enjoying the Edwin Jagger DE89. It really is a fine razor.

However, I neglected my 1948 Superspeed in the process.

I decided to let the poor Superspeed see the light of day again. On a whim I loaded it with an Astra Superior Platinum blade ...which I have found to be a decent, but not great blade...and boy did I get a surprise.

The shave was smooth as silk...and the razor cut through my stubble like a hot knife through butter. It was wonderful.

Goes to show that razor and blade combinations can really make a difference.

Anyway, just wanted to commend that combo to you all..and ask if you have any particular combinations that seem to work exceptionally well for you.

I have an EJ DE89, Merkur 38c, 48 Superspeed and a Tech.

No doubt.

I have tried that combo, but unfortunately, no matter how little pressure I apply, the Feather never fails to give me weepers. I have even paired up a Feather with a Tech and it still does the same thing to me. The Feather is just not for me I guess! Either that or my technique isn't up to snuff.

I like that combination a lot, too. I continue to prefer the iridiums over the astras, though. Last night, feeling adventurous, I put a derby in there (first derby I've ever tried) and it did pretty well, but not as good as the astras or iridiums.

I will be ordering some Iridiums soon. Yellow 7 o' clocks too. I like them both almost equally. I've never tried them in my SS.

Polsilvers are excellent as well, even though I believe they are out of production now.
