37c slant razor arriving any day - any last minute tips/advice?

I have been loving the DE "adventure" for about two months now. The razors that I own are:
- EJ 89
- Gillette New - solid handle
- Gillette New - ball end handle
- Gillette Super Speed (1965)
- Gillette Aristocrat 1967 (really just the gold Adjustable Slim)

The 37c gets so many good reviews as a second razor, and I finally ordered one to try out what all of the fuss is all about :biggrin1:

I have fairly hard water, and after trying/testing various soaps/shaving creams, I chose TOBS Avocado shaving cream, and I do face lathering with an Omega synthetic brush.

So any tips/suggestions on how to handle the slant razor?

I love my 37C and it is a very efficient and effective razor. I pair mine with an Astra SP, Feather, Super Iridium and I get some great BBS. If you have been using the previous DE razors mentioned above than you will be surprised on how efficient the 37C performs. Keep us posted and enjoy your slant shaves. I know I am.

+1. Enjoy!

The Slant is a great razor. Sounds like you're already prepared and ready with cream and brush so now just the razor is needed. Nothing special to remember other than keep a light touch with the razor as you would with any DE and enjoy the shave.

Don't be afraid of it, just go with it. Even if the first attempt or two suck, just keep trying different blades and angles. And keep in mind, it's not necessarily more aggressive, just uses a different method/efficiency.

The 37c was my go-to razor before I discovered the R41. I cut myself up for a few days before I got the hang of the 37c but I loved it for months. The workmanship is a little shoddy though.

Exactly. It's not that aggressive of a razor, but has the potential to be more efficient (i.e., fewer passes) because of the slicing action.

Make sure the blade is loaded so the long edges of the blade are parallel to the top cap of the razor. Other than that, it is like any other razor.

I don't understand this. Isn't the alignment determined by the guide pins on the head? I don't recall any play when I loaded mine.

Shave exactly as you would with the EJ89, same motions same passes. It is not aggressive, just efficient as everyone says. Treat with respect. Light or no pressure like with everything else. Good blade that you are comfortable with. The workmanship is fine. Don't know why some always have to add that little dig at Merkur. They have been making razors longer than most of the people here have been alive and they are affordable because of how they are made. Still perform splendidly over a long period of time. But I digress....

You have my favorite razors and soon will have my go to baby.

Easiest way to load the blade and as recommended by Merkur is to put the top plate upside down on a towel. Insert blade then put the razor upside down into the top plate and tighten. Blade should line up straight with the top plate at the end. No need to over tighten.

Thank you guys for the advice and encouragement :)

It did not arrive in today's mail - maybe tomorrow!
