What's new

3 vintage brushes

Just got these as a sort of bonus along with a razor I wanted on ebay.

Anything you can tell me about them? Are they all boar? I notice they all seem to have an aluminum sleeve around the knot, is that a mark of a lower quality brush? I sort of like the length of the two that are in poorer shape and could see myself stripping and repainting them if they were worth it. Maybe even replacing the knot, but I don't know about that metal sleeve.

I wouldn't put the effort or cash into restoring a painted wood brush unless it had some sentimental value, that's just me though.

Good to know. I wasn't thinking of much more than sanding and spraying with Fusion spray paint. But I can see your point. I'll probably try each of them as is and see if any of them jumps out at me but won't plan to re-knot any of them.

The green one looks like I could like it. But then maybe it's best to let it be its funky old self even if I do plan to use it.

I dunno, that persian jar shaped rubberset could be pretty nice all cleaned up and reknotted. I know I would be interested in giving that one a new life.

could probably drop them on the BST for cheap and someone would pick them up.

Ah yes. That one looks to me like it might be worth keeping original. But the way I see it I got the three of them free. I bid $27 for the Gillette new in the auction and it comes with these, plus a second DE open comb and an auto strop.
