2nd Str8 Shave > Thumbing a side

Just found this spot. Posted results from my 1st shave in the shave clinic / newbie check in. Figured I'd move in here.

 After watching a number of "how to" videos I decided to take my tablet in with me cued up to my favorite one. First a little pre shave prep:a8::a8::a8: OK all set ..... away we go. Play - Stop - Play - Stop - Play ..... etc. 20 minutes later.

Results: Smooth shave, no missed areas & only 1 nick but not on my face. Ready ..... nicked the end of my thumb when it slipped up the heel and caught the blade :a52:

Easy there.... I've also had worse hand and finger nicks with a straight. Careful as you can be they can happen. Enjoy your new lifestyle.

Thumb slipped up the heel? What kind of grip was that?

I've sliced my thumb passing from left hand to right hand.
Worst cut on my face was the side of my chin when my elbow caught the door frame.

Admittedly not the best at the time but looking something like this. I got confused :confused1

We all get cut, part of the fun. My worst cut was on my ear during my first shave with a square point. Be careful if you have a point on the end, they reach out and grab things. Cut my ear twice, my neck once, and my nose. I ended up grinding the point off....

So far I've only gotten two bad cuts from shaving. The first one was from a DE blade slipping while I was taking it out of my razor. This left a gash next to my fingernail but only blood, no scarring. My second cut was from a dumb mistake. While I was restoring a razor, someone told me to be careful so to demonstrate how dull the edge was I dragged it across part of the back of my hand no real pressure other than holding the blade. Even though I initially dulled the blade repeatedly on glass it was still sharp enough to cut me and left a nice 1/2 inch scar. That scar reminds me to respect just how sharp these razors are and how sharp they must be to shave hair.

Straights have a way of correcting any lapse in attention. Fortunately the cuts are so clean they heal rather quickly.

I'm glad to hear someone else has resorted to the grinding of the tip. I have a Erik Anton Berg that is just crazy sharp and after I neutered it we have been good friends.:001_rolle
