$25 Off at Small Businesses on Saturday with Your AmEx Card

I received an email from West Coast Shaving today that said:

Shop Small on the 24th and get $25 Back!
This time of year all you hear about is Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Well, we want to tell you about a day right in between. It's called Small Business Saturday and it's a day set aside for you to support small businesses like West Coast Shaving. For the 3rd year in a row American Express is offering it's Cardmembers a $25 credit for shopping at a participating small business on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. All you have to do is register your American Express card at Shop Small and then plan to do some shopping on the 24th. You get to help small local businesses like us and you save some money, it's a win-win!

Who else is considered a small business? Go to Shop Small to find out. I know what I'll be buying with my $25 credit, a Simpson Rover. Long live SBAD!

The Shop Small terms seem to imply that the credit only applies to in store purchases. I wonder if an online purchase works as well. While I would love to visit WCS in person, it would be difficult to make it out to California in time.

I saw that too. I don't think there's a way for AmEx to differentiate an online versus an in-store charge once it hits your statement.

Is the statement credit offer available for purchases at online retailers?
No. Small Business Saturday is about supporting local, independently owned and operated brick and mortar businesses such as your favorite local boutique, corner store, bakery or gift shop. Cyber Monday drives business to online retailers and Black Friday to national retail businesses.

American Express $25 Statement Credit Cardmember Offer for Small Business Saturday 2012

Well, I'm going to make my purchase at WCS. If I get the credit, cool, if not, whatever.

I just got an email from AmEx thanking me for using my card and supporting Small Business Saturday. Things are looking good!

Same here...order placed at WCS. Unfortunately they were out of the Polsilver SI bladwes, but still spent $80 to get the free shipping.

Interesting. I'm wondering if they changed their mind at the last minute.
I got a couple of emails from Goulet, first announcing the program, and the 2nd, indicating that it was indeed for in-store purchases only.

Glad to see you guys get your credit... I don't have an Amex or I'd be clearing them out
