I’m hoping to head to the local Woodcraft store to look around this weekend. I hope to get a few pipes from Aristocob as well in the coming weeks.
Boy she got out in front of that pretty quickly!I'm almost set. I have my cobs and sketches. I'll be at my local home improvement box store sometime before the weekend.
Mrs. Rookie asked me what I was sketching out. I told her about this contest. Her first remark was to tell me this is not in any way an excuse to get a lathe.
My situation has drastically changed in the last 24 hours...so I'm still hoping to get in on this thing but I'm delayed again. I may not be able to put as much into my entry as I had originally hoped. We'll see...Is there just five of us taking part? Where is everybody?

Indeed...Brandaves, I hope things work out. I know what that used to mean for me in a similar line of work.
Measuring tape, pencil, drill press, and masking tape. And if you're like me, a straight edge.
I think they call the results of that "freehand" or "art"?
Admiring your line work...Not sure how accurately I'll be able to drill this stem extension freehand.

I need to get the two drilled holes to meet pretty well for this to work. Finding the bottom of the 7mm hole with the 10mm drill will be tricky. The other option is to try and splice two drilled sections together, but I'd rather avoid that if I can.
"Oh, no lathe honey, a mill would work so much better."I'm almost set. I have my cobs and sketches. I'll be at my local home improvement box store sometime before the weekend.

We'll see. I have a half finished one that I saved from the dogs a few years ago. They destroyed the other project one I was working on.Cheers John. That's sloppy for me. I used to be a proper draughtsman, once upon a time It did help me get my head around what I'm trying to achieve though
Are you going to be joining in too, John? Aside from Dave an Brandon, I think there's only me, Mike and Rookie signed up so far. It would be good to see a few more playing along
Do I dare tell you about Arizona Ironwood LLC? A lot of the exotic wood sources I used to use looking for handle material are no longer up but that one is.Well, I wasn’t able to get the laminated wood block today but I was able to get some maple, olive wood and zebra wood instead. I’ll have a few blocks now for future projects !
