What's new

2 WTG and 1 XTG/ATG combo made a mess of my right cheek & left jawline

Hello All,
I am not sure what happened today morning, but I would deeply appreciate advice on how to tackle the after-math... After 1 month into DE shaving....

1. Had a wonderful prep - warm shower, facial clean, warm towel on a 2 day growth
2. Luxurious Tabac lather and a new Wilkinson blade in a Merkur 38C. I have noticed I am more comfortable with Wilkinson compared to a Gilette, Merkur, Feather blade. Lather lasted for 3 passes and 1 touch-up (but I noticed it was getting little less creamy, so I loaded the brush again).
3. Had 2 good WTGs - reducing the hair gradually. No pains, no cuts till now. No pressure on the blade. My angle was OK. I had the mirror about 6 inches from my face and was very particular to use the razor carefully.
4. The 3rd pass was a combination of XTG and ATG. I can't go ATG on the neck as its too painful, and I prefer to go at some angle. However, the ATG on the right cheek was possible (this is in the direction from the ear to the nose). The blade was cutting smoothly and I did not feel any tugging. I was using slow and short strokes, yet at the end I had severe rashes and a bright red spot (oval) on the right cheek and a similar rash on the left jawline.

How could this have happened? Was it because of:
A. Slow strokes
B. Lather that became less creamy/slick for the most aggressive pass (i.e. ATG/XTG combo?)

Should I take a break from shaving for 2 days over the weekend?

Regards

Could be B, but I suspect C. Probably too much pressure or D. Your angle turned into a slice?

There's nothing in the rule book that says you HAVE to shave - put your feet up for the weekend, and good luck recovering!
