What's new

2.00 Sheraton

I at first past this by at an antique store in Georgetown S.C. early July. I thought at quick glance it was a tech but seeing nothing else I went back to it.

Once I was able to pick it up and see it better I knew it was no Tech. I paid 2.00 for it and also got a look of "what the hell will you do with it anyway" from the clerk. She is always nice and was that day too, but given the shape of it, I guess no one would expect I would someday use it.

There is no plating to this, just brass it seems. I do not know about these so I can only assume they came in brass and not plate.

I will plate it I think as it will be easier than cleaning it and look better down the road if the finish is bad and it tarnishes again.

That's absolutely a nice pickup for $2, even in that shape. :thumbup1:

No, they were definitely plated originally. The Sheraton was gold and the Senator was nickel. This one is definitely a Sheraton, though, from the connections between the doors and the lifting arms.

thats got to be worth getting replated, nice little razors , it would look great with a new coat of nickel or gold plate.

Before you spend a dollar I would shave with it and see how well it does on your face. If it doesn't shave well for you, why spend money on it?

The Sheraton (in decent condition) is a very smooth shaving razor. This one looks pretty sad. But who knows?

The Gillette Sheraton (made in 1937-1939) is a favorite of mine in my den of 30 DE razors. I paid well over $100 for mine, and would gladly do it again. Mine is slightly worn but still looks noble. I have no desire to replate it.

Wow, certainly be worthwhile re-plating that guy as long as all the teeth are straight. Hard to tell with the dirt or whatever that is between some of them. But even if it's not it'd still be a fun razor to clean up, disinfect and give a spin!

Woof, at $2 it 's worth replating if it's working. Quite nice and as you can see by my avatar I like them. Great find, enjoy.

Congrats on a great pickup. The Sheraton is an excellent entry for those wanting to try open combs. It's mild, forgiving and being a tto is a plus. But before you do anything please soak it. The tto mechanism if it's locked up or even tight you don't want to go trying to twist it open. Been there done that. At this point just soak in near boiling water around 175 degrees for an hour, brush with dish soap then repeat. Maybe even a shot of WD-40 down the pinhole shaft at the center of the head and end caps throughout the day. You don't have to drown it just a squirt. The wash again. After several cycles of that your good to using a swish of alcohol and scrub well with it.

Wow!!!!!! Excellent find for $2!!!! Give it a soak like rx said, and give it a whirl :) Even if you get it replated, you will be under the $$ if you were to buy one.

I like an more agressive shave, but this is nice for my collection. Knowing how rare they are and what the good ones go for it will still come out cheaper to plate this than shop around for a better one.

Here is the update...a 20.00 plate job at a local shop and she is ready to shave.

Have you tried your Sheraton with a Feather blade?

P.S. I hope you left a tip for the clerk in the antique store.

I would be surprised if you don't like the shave. If you don't, you should be able to cover the $22 you have in it. Let us know how you like it. I love my Sheraton & Senator and have an OC TTO Aristocrat on the way.

The Sheraton is perhaps the best tto open comb a person could get if he wanted to venture into oc's. It's mild and has the advantage of not needing to take it apart in order to shave. The difference between that and the Senator was like night and day. If you can source a Sheraton do so.

Nice looking razor, especially now that it's all plated. Well worth the $22 you have in it. Hopefully you like the way it shaves. I want to try a TTO OC razor, but right now I am too busy enjoying my shaves with the fantastic Cadet razor head and superb handle I just bought from you. The 100 Voshkods were a huge bonus as well. I had no idea how much difference a real brass, heavy handle would have on the quality of shave I get from a razor head. With my New LC, it was like shaving with a new razor.

Anyhow, fantastic looking razor. Congrats.

I normally am not a fan of Gillette razors for the simple reason that some shave a bit too mild for me. The red tip was always overrated as far as aggression in my book.

This one was a pleasant surprise however. I would recommend these to anyone who can't get their hands on one if your looking for something more than the tech and red tip. Only my first shave and will have firmer opinion in a few days I think.
