What's new

1st and 2nd attempts

I tried to breath some new life into a couple of brushes I've had laying around. The first was a Burt's Bees ceramic handle with a boar bristle knot. I was able to remove the knot simply by boiling it for a few seconds. The second was an Ever-Ready flea market find that had a truly gnarly looking knot of unidentified composition. It had to be cut off and drilled out with a 3/4 forstner bit and finished up with a Dremel sanding drum. Both received a 22mm silvertip grade A knot from Golden Nib.

Tony at Golden Nib is a class act. He sent me two knots instead of one by mistake and when I offered to return one of them he refused to take it back. Thanks Tony!!! Let me know what you think of the restoration attempt.

Well done! I've got the same Ever-Ready brush with a 22mm TGN silvertip knot. It's my favorite brush. I like the chunky look of the BB's handle.

Beautiful! You're speaking my language here with the vintage restoration. What did you use to stick the knots in with?

I used PSI Woodworking Products 15 min epoxy. I like to use slower epoxies as they set up a little harder than the 5 min. variety.

Nice job. Like I always say, it's great to see something saved and brought back into use. Enjoy them!

If you ever get another ever ready like that, and want to toss a boar knot into it, I'd be glad to take it off your hands!

I have one exactly like that one ( a C40 I think), that is waiting for a new blank. There's a problem with it though, send me a PM if you want some pictures of it so I can explain.
