1989 Black Handled Super Speed?

I just won a black handled SS from an auction, there was only one pic on the auction itself, clearly showing a newer SS (the knurling was the new style knurling). I asked the seller for the date code, he replied with "J4". If he read it correctly, that would make it a 4th quarter 89, which was interesting to me for sure. Even if he misread it, and it's an "I", those are still pretty few and far between, and the only reason I even bid on the item, honestly. lol

Once I get the razor I'll update this with more info, and I'll try to get pics showing the date code, if I can. I am not sure I have the equipment I need to get that close of a detailed pic, tho.

This will be interesting to find out. I have several boxes of blades from that time period, and it seems Gillette's shutdown of US DE operations in 1988-89 took a little longer than they planned. I wonder if we ever will here from someone who was actually was there at the time....

lol The black and gold adjustables are spotted pretty easily, just not usually touchable for under $50 on the auction sites. But by all means, if you have an '89 balck handle SS kicking around, get the wikki on here updated to reflect they do exist. lol
