1969 Gillette Fatboy Black Handle

Found this:
proxy.php

a 1969 Fatboy (adjustable not fatboy) today, at my favorite Vintage shop. She also 4 other fatboys and what looked to be a travel razor. This was in the best condition. But the others just needed some cleaning, they all looked mechanically ok, and I would say good condition on the outside and plating. One had some rust inside the head. I thought pretty good for 5 bucks. They were all priced $5.00

Date code is 4th quarter 69.

Very nice score, but technically not what is referred to as a "Fatboy."
This appears to be a long-handled Super Adjustable, which is also very highly-regarded as a razor.

Fatboys were only made from '58-'61, I think, and did not have black handles.

Let me reassure you, tho- for $5 that is still an awesome find!

I wondered, when I Googled it, it came up with a "fatboy", but I thought it was a little too modern for that...and the black handle besides...thanks

I didn't check the rest of their dates, but they were all adjustable.

The others, if not Fat Boys may well be Slim Adjustables, a very popular adjustable (often mistaken for Fat Boys). And don't worry about the rust in the head, there is no steel in the razors to rust, they are brass. The rust is just from a blade that was left in it at some point, and can be fairly easily removed.

So I went back as all of you suggested. Here is what I found...most are in pretty good shape, with cleaning being the main issue. I a..did...a leave one...it was, I didn't know at the time...a Tech. *ducks*

1951 W-3
Gilllette Superspeed Black Tip

1959 E-3
Gillette Adjustable (Fatboy)

1960 F-2
Gillette Adjustable (Fatboy)

1968 N-4
Gillette Superspeed Silver Tip

I kept the superslim, but I will be cleaning up the rest, and looking to sell them either here or on Eflay.

That sounds like quite a score! How 'bout some photos for us to salivate over?

I will snap some phone pics.

I read the BTS sticky about not making a profit, but at the same time, I want to be able to buy a custom made Scuttle locally, and a fountain pen (A Varuna Rajan).

So I am not trying to gouge anyone, but can you all give me fair price points for these?

Thanks
Marty

Not to worry, just sell them on eBay! They are yours after all, to do what you want with. No one tells you what you can and can't sell them for there. Clean and shine them real well, take some very good pics (follow the lead of the Sellers who get the big bucks there). Write decent copy, set the auctions to end at an appropriate time for maximum bids, and see what you can get for them :thumbup1:.

I think that "no selling for a profit" rule, is more a warning about price gouging your fellow wet shavers; I don't think anyone is going to have issue with you offering the razors at a fair market price. Determine what condition you think each razor is in, and then do a search of the B/S/T for similar items to see what they sell for.

As a rough guideline, good condition Superspeeds are worth $15-20, and a good condition Fatboy $25-30. :tongue_sm

Thanks John, that is about what I thought. But wasn't sure, as I have been spending more time on the Fountain Pen Network then over here. I thought about here more then Ebay, just for less costs to me, and to get them to a target audience. I know that my fatboy has been great for me.

I did an initial clean just a minute ago, just to scrub the majority of stuff off. The still look pretty good, and I will get them more ready to sell.
