What's new

1910 single ring

Got this in today. Serial of B414539 which puts it made in 1910. Imagine, 100 years ago someone took a shave with this. I'm not even going to clean it or replate it. That aging, to me, is history and I'm not wiping it out.

+1 for preserving the patina. I've done the same with my single
ring.

However, I shave with mine. Not terribly often, but I do use it. I am not going to let it be a display item. It deserves to be used, especially considering the fine shave it gives.

Yes, I thought about giving it a go. At least one shave with it to say I've shaved with a 100 year old razor. :001_smile

Just got done shaving with it. Didn't shave my face because it didn't need it so I went for the head which hasn't been shaved in 4 days. I dipped the razor alcohol, put a new Shark blade on it, lathered up the dome with Proraso and shaved away. I figured since these razors are fairly small, it should be easy to handle shaving the head. 3 passes later, my dome is baby smooth. Only got 2 cuts, one on a small mole and one on a bump that was already there. I usually shave my head with a 3-blade cartridge razor and I've never gotten it this good. 100 year old razor planned for display in the curio and now it's my full time head shaver. Got to love that! Now I've got to find another one for the curio.

That's interesting. I have to say that not cleaning and polishing a tarnished old razor is something that never occurred to me. Some have had the plating intact, in other cases I've been shining brass. I suppose that as long as it's sanitary, the appearance of cleanliness isn't as important.

I have a 1909 Single Ring ABC set that I've been wanting to shave with, but haven't. My last shave with a single ring was a little harsh (totally my fault). My technique has improved, so I may give it a shot.

I highly recommend it. I can't wait to use this one on my face. After seeing what it did for my head, I can only imagine what it'll do for my face.
