10x2" granite for film

my granite guys down the street aren't that helpful. they'll give me scraps but won't do anything else. i asked about a cut and they previously quoted almost $50, i wa hoping like $5 for a couple of cuts (maybe i am way off in my scale of what should be happening). I think that is what happens when you live in a salary and ethnically diverse area. i haven't asked since, but it's across my auto repair shop i go to for inspection/emmissions.

but friday i scored a piece that i would have loved to have them cut the ends off, but no one was around to help. so i just grabbed it out near the scrap pile and left. just lapped it and chamfered the edges on the DMTs. totally lost the shiny surface it previously had.

maybe this will better emulate the experience of holding a hone that i enjoy. it's 10x2x1

You can go to Lowe's or Home Depot and get a 1 foot square piece of "marble" or glass for cheap. Smooth, cheap and it works. You don't have to have a 2 or 3 inch width piece to use the lapping film.

I was pretty lucky to find several places here in Taiwan that do custom-sized pieces for pet cooling pads and speaker stands. Had one cut to 6x16cm because I thought the size would be great for a small hone (it is), and then a second 3x16cm piece for handholding.

If you want that super glassy surface, it's from wet-polishing.

I already have several pieces of wider granite and plexi and I don't really like 3"+ wide or 3/16" deep.

I don't care about shine as long as flat.
