What's new

What's on your work bench right now?

Nice work! :)
I'm also starting to run low on blades to restore..

Just finished yet another Heljestrand giveaway.
Unmarked, ivory, no thumb-notch. If I remember Polarbeard's list correctly this should be a low number.
These scales have almost square edges that are slightly rounded, compared to the usual curved edges.
Anyway.

The point of the blad had a small chip in it, but I was able to remove that by slightly rounding it off.
Works great since the guy I'm giving it to doesn't like square point bloodshed anyway. :)
The rest of the work was just some light sanding, cleaning and polishing.

Sorry Luecke.. I forgot the before shot. :(

Fail..... that’s ok, I usually get too excited to start working that I forget to get before photos too. lol
Beautiful work you’ve done there!

"Look what I found"
This razor was rescaled a few years ago. Being the goon that I am, I dropped it and cracked the scales. I have been looking for a candidate for a swordfish bill was rescued. The swordfish bill was a broken sword with a lot of real estate to work with. The razor is a Southern & Richardson with a finger ring. Needed a unique razor for a unique material. A fairly straightforward job using a recycled lead wedge. Brought the scales down to a thickness of .070 inch and sanded up to 500 grit. Buffed out on a wheel using a white stick. Fairly easy to work with but smelled like burnt hair when splitting in half on a tabletop jigsaw

That is so cool! The scales turned out amazingly well. I’ve never seen a razor like it other than small corn razors with little loops for hanging.

Thank you gentleman. I did this one a few years ago but dropped it and cracked the scales. I will try to be more careful this time

This one was supposed to be a summer project. But, when my clumsy hands nicked my ShurEdge; this blade fit the scales I'm crafting.

It's an Army-Navy Imperial that came to me with hand-hewn oak branch scales and steel shiny steel pins. (I think they are nails.) The pins were shinier then the blade. They were also a pain to cut off. I had to grind them off. I thought I'd taken a picture of the razor with scales and blade intact. If I did, I can't find it.

At this point I've freed the blade, cleaned the grime off, and given it a rubdown with No. 9 Rubbing compound and steel wool. The dirt is off, the engraving is good, the blade is straight, hone wear is OK, bevel is very even. Yes, here are the pictures...

That looks good Bob I had one not so long back with a nail in the pivot but I was lucky it was bent over lol
I just want to know the steel that nail was made from. It was shinier then the blade. It was also well peened. How'd the guy do that without burning the scale?
