What's new

What straight did you use today? Now with PICTURES

Restored blade. Still not sure I like these scales. I might switch them out for something with a bit more pop.
Brush is the 24mm two-band badger from Maggards on a PAA switchback handle.
Soap and splash: WSP Neroli.

Last razor from drawer #1, not sure if it appropriately goes there (my anal retentive sorting system) but one more razor from a bit further East in NY state.

Geneva Cutlery Pyramid Brand and yes it is a 5/8” square point hollow (this is more of a 1/2 hollow). Doesn’t get a lot of use, the blade has proved pretty reactive in the past, no idea why.

#47 in my "my overlooked blade/Brush/Soap" theme.

Razor: Lotus Fabrication D`Art - I just finished this razor this afternoon. I did a bevel set then BBW then coticule then 3 and 1um film.
Lovely stiff little French blade, just the way I like em and a thumb notch that is not annoying when stropping which is a plus.

Reads Tilquin Anvers-Gand on the reverse except the Q in Tilquin looks more like a ribbon of some sort.
Very nice shaver and reminds me a little of my Aubril 139 which is delightful in that you can hear it cutting but you feel nothing.
Although it performed very well there more left in it so I think the toe could be better and a natural edge would really suit this razor. Almost certain I'm going to put a Thuringian edge on this.

Soap: Tabac - Used as I didn't want any surprises whilst evaluating a newly refurbed razor.

Brush: Homemade 26mm Badger. Will lather any soap including the garbage GFT pucks.

Geneva Cutlery Corp. 9/16-5/8” SPECIAL A straight for face and for first pass of head mowed down 9 days of growth. First complete 3pass face shave w this razor, whereas I did 1pass w it awhile back after I did initial hone to compare w other razors I honed to test if I needed to take back to stones. Got off the bay for decent price in auction. Virtually didn’t have any spine wear, looked as if was hardly used, maybe bc of edge. Had small ding/chip on blade edge n had to correct w atoma 400. Isolated spine by taping edge after chip was removed. Honed up nice and sharp. First American straight. Glad I purchased n read a thread on here discussing good straights from early 1900’s made in America. Grind and spine were a lot better (even spine and grind with no warp towards blade edge), from some of the vintage and modern Germans I’ve acquired. Wish I’d taken before and after photos bc there was extra angled metal 1/4” from shoulder/stabilizer along spine and was thicker at that part of spine making it not a wise idea to hone w blade perpendicular to stones.
King C. Gillette safety razor w permasharp blade(1) for 2-3 pass on head. First time using this blade from sampler. Boy what a close shave. Sharp and smooth

Considering purchasing 100 pack.
Latoya shave stick soap for face w leftover lathered w ogallala sandalwood for head, face n bowl lathered combo
Simpson Duke 2 best badger
Tony Miller “Old No. 2” Notovan w flax linen
Alum block, Thayers witch hazel rose, Gillette gel, Nivea sensitive balm, and Pinaud clubman VIBR aftershave

5/8 Boker

I touched it up on a Naniwa 12k and wow, it was something special. It didn’t even slow down at the toughest part of my beard. I know I have a great edge when it easily takes down those hairs.

As usual on a Sunday, I shaved my head with a DE after my SR face shave. A great way to end one week and start the next.
