Straight Razor Acquisition Thread

Just arrived today from Mr mlys7884 in Ukraine (very nice guy) two soviet straight razors to compensate for my lost beautiful three pin nos STIZ Vostok 3 made in 1969 (thrown by my wife - she does not understand my passion for straights). Anyhow my two new friends are STIZ Raketa 1971 and Trud Yahta 1967 - soviet straight razors are so underrated.

Is that Ivory, or fuax? Beautiful either way

Looks like faux. Certainly nice though.
I wish covered tangs were more common.

I seem to remember seeing a tang stamp with a fairy on it. I don't think I've seen fairy etched in the face of the blade before.

Vintage 6/8 Bismarck & CV Heljestrand MK No4

Heljestrand MK No4 after restore, still need to hone an edge. The Bismarck turned out to be 7/8 of a beast. Will post pics after restore.

The scales are for sure faux ivory, but I'm not certain about the tang, it looks a lot like real ivory, though I could be wrong. It is thicker than what I'm used to seeing on a razor, so signs point to the tang also being faux. Either way, I'm happy.

Those both look really nice, especially the Raketa! My Russian wife has come close to throwing my straights, especially when i have them covering the table and on every surface in the house(When I'm doing a razor sale, they are everywhere). I hope you love them!

Yep it’s tin, a glass bottle of vintage VEG, and a Fromm Redhead(man I always fall for redheads....).

Thought it was super unique and definitely very old!

Talk about instant shave den. Wow. Very nice razors. Seems like the most recommended is doc226 for restorations and honing. I believe he is a member here but I know he has a website an I believe it can be found by searching doc226 on google.

Alfredo(doc226) told me last week, he’s not accepting razors for a month because of home renovations.

Got that W&B back from Sam Sylver! He replaced the scales, did a light restoration, and honed it for me. Now the question: sell or keep?

I had bad fortunes with vintage Bismark“s razors with my first 5/8 square point that fell and snapped the blade in half. The second was a 6/8 which was stolen from the post office before delivery.

So a couple of days ago I purchased a CVH MK4, a coti and what was advertised as 6/8 Bismarck that turned out to be a big 7/8.

Glen (Gemstar Customs) does restoration work and honing.
If anyone knows Docs website address I would interested in checking out more of his work. I know he has posted some nice work on the site. Hopefully his home renovation is going as smoothly as possible.
