After using both Vi-John and Arko back to back I have to agree with you. The Vi-John might be oh so slightly better, in fact. It is a lot cheaper, too.
What about Vi-John shaving cream?

I am continually impressed with Vi-John. In my cheap shaving soap and cream shoot out thread I posted a head to head comparison in which VJ beat Cella and Proraso, among others, in slickness, residual slickness, and etc. It only costs a fraction of those soaps, too.
For people worried about price, sometimes you can find them in Indian grocery stores. Otherwise check Maggard's and Razor company for US vendors or Italian Barber in Canada.
