I would stick with the 3/1. It's got a great handle (probably the best I've tried yet) and the current crop of 1/1 and 3/1 seem to have same loft (48mm).

I don't believe the brush will be any different to your 3/1, apart from the handle, which in my view is too small.

Well I held the 1/1 and it was very comfortable to me because I hold my brushes at the very base. If you choke the handles up when lathering I can see the 3/1 being better for your needs but I have yet to actually lather with one and use it. I will report back.
