What's new

Your thoughts on this article?

Damn, I was hoping that the ghost of King Gillette had resurfaced and that they were anouncing a NEW DE razor, finally admitting the error of their ways.:lol::lol::lol::lol:

New features range from blades that are 15 percent thinner and meant to tug skin less, to a better grip and new mineral-oil lubrication.

The ProGlide will cost 10 percent more than the current Fusion, at a suggested price of $10.99 for a handle and a single shaving head.

The launch includes four new products to use before and after shaving, including a thermal scrub Taub says will mimic the effect of a barber's hot towel. They'll sell for $6.99 to $8.99.

It cost's 10% more (EEKK!! As if the current prices were not already highway robbery), and the primary benefit is pre-shave oil included in the cartridge itself?

Sounds like nothing more than typical marketing schemes to me. :mad3:

"...30,000 men were involved in testing and developing the latest Fusion..."

No wonder they're so ridiculously expensive.

I really like the hot towel-mimicking product. Why would anyone pay for this when a real hot towel costs only a fraction of the price?

The "mineral oil"!!! I can buy a bottle of mineral oil, around 12-16 ounces for about $1.50 at Walmart.
I need to figure out what everyone needs that should be thrown away every use!!!
Disposable cookware!!! "Why would you use that nasty greasy iron skillet? With my disposable skillets you don't have to!"

The marriage of Gillette and AoS has obviously resulted in Gillette picking up on the worst, most gimmicky aspects of AoS while ignoring the one positive quality about the operation (Italian soaps and British creams).

Its clearly marketing hype to invigorate sales.

I think that with the Fusion, Gillette has some interesting issues - with the price and number of blades, I think that most guys can get more shaves from a Fusion than they could the Mach 3 or Sensor 3, so higher unit price is offset by lower unit sales.

I find Gillette's Fusion ads interesting - one set of ads says to change blades as soon as the blue strip turns white, while another set of ads says that you can get 3 times more shaves from a Fusion than you can from Gillette disposable (as in up to 3 weeks).

Given that the blue strip turns white pretty quickly (as in well under 3 weeks of daily shaving), its clear that something doesn't jibe here, but since when has Gillette been concerned about this stuff.

I also think the whole notion of a new line of crapola is a joke - again just trying to fill needs that don't exist and then back the products up with major marketing hype.

As far as I'm concerned, the last decent cartridge that Gillette made was the Sensor.
