You people incited BAD(Boar Acquisition Disorder)

After reading so much on the boar brushes and how great they are after break in I had to see for myself. I was surfing ebay and SWMBO spotted the Semogue 1438 and liked it. After some reading it received nice reviews so I pulled the trigger. I figured for less than $15 it was worth a try. I cant recall where I read it but seems someone wrote about steaming the bristles to expedite the break in process. I cant find the thread again so dont know if it was an accepted or frowned upon practice. Anyway I cant wait to get it here and see what the Big Boar fuss is about personally.

The Semogues are arguably the best boar brushes, out there. i have never heard of steaming the bristles and i would not recommend that. Just use it!! That is the best way to break it in, or you can just palm lather it until you feel it is ready, but why waste the experience. Good luck.

Give the brush its time to break in. The 1438 is the same as the 1520 with a different handle and is pretty soft right out of the box. It will perform adequate after 8-12 shaves but needs a couple of uses more for a complete break-in. Forget about dry blowers or steaming; forced processes never get the same good results as natural processes do.

I appreciate the advice. Semogues do receive high marks from what I see. Maybe an Owners Club next.
