This is the first straight that I have ever purchased, it was an Ebay long shot from an auction that had a picture of the coffin and nothing else. I got it for a low last minute bid just under a year ago. After winning the auction I asked the seller for a pic of what I won and this is what I got.
I did not know anything about restoration or scale making at the time and let it sit until now. The razor says MacDaniel Oxford and came in a coffin from an old New York Jewelry store from the late 1800's. As of late I have been busy restoring many other straights for my own collection and have built up my confidence to give a full restoration and scale making a shot. Since this is the first straight I have owned and it was in need of a full restore I felt it was a prime candidate for this project. I am very pleased with how it has come out with the exception of the wedge that I crafted from three layers of Neon green G10 liner material and doesn't quite fit my expectations but I plan on rectifying that in the future.
Gentlemen I present to you my First full restore "MacDaniel",
The scales are crafted from a resin impregnated canvas that is fully waterproof and has a very unique texture that I quite like for this project. I will be honing it very soon and plan on giving it a shave this weekend. How did I do? Hopefully this first time I didn't finish too early.
