What's new

You might have a bad blade when...

Its not always that easy to recognize if you're getting a bad shave, to tell if it is just a bad day, you've changed your technique too much, you've got a bad blade, the brush is too scritchy, or your adjustable settings just aren't right.

Just wanted to toss out my two cents on what I experienced this past week.

So I changed out my blade, as I do every weekend (Shark Super Chrome).
I decided to use the FatBoy razor, as I haven't touched it in some time.
And I figure, why not give the Rooney 1/1 I have a better shot at face lathering.
So I have at it with some C&E Sienna that is one of my go to soaps.

DAY1:
1st pass - WTG. Errrr... this is pulling more than usual. Maybe I'll dial back from 6 to 5.

2nd pass - XTG. Now I'm feeling scrapes, and its starting to sting. Let me adjust my angle some more. Still way too much stubble.

3rd pass - ATG. Forget ATG, I'll do another XTG. Noticed some weepers when I reapplied the lather. I've got some serious burn going on. I've gotten the stubble down, but it is acceptable as is. Alum stings!! But it feels better after repeat passes with the block.

DAY2:
See above & repeat. Better results with angle adjustment, but still burns. My neck looks like raw meat.

DAY3:
See above, but tried a different brush with bowl lather. Again better results, but still some stinging. Did I drop my FatBoy and warp it or something?
I'm afraid to touch my face for the 1st hour.

DAY4:
Enough is enough. Tried a new blade. HALLELUJAH!
Wasn't the FatBoy after all. Face lathering isn't my bag, and I get some minor irritation from the 1st scritchy brush, but a major improvement from before. A much better way to start the morning now. I think I'll stick with bowl lathering.

Never gotten a bad Shark blade before, but now I know it can happen, and what it feels like.
