Xbox One

I'm going to wait for there to be more games I want other than Forza. Since I still have 4 I'm good to go

After experiencing the mishaps with the Xbox 360, I will be waiting because I am sure Microsoft messed up somewhere again. The interesting thing is that I think Microsoft learned their lesson about overcrowding the case, which helped cause the overheating that caused the three "red rings of death" with the Xbox 360. The Xbox One has significantly more free space inside according to this Gizmodo article.

Nice, I hope you like it.

I will be waiting for a while before I make an upgrade so they can iron out all the day 1 issues. Two of my Xbox360s crapped out on me(red rings of death). Still enjoyed the Xbox360 over PS3 after owning both systems, so definitely looking at getting an XboxOne. I just haven't decided which system I want more. I think the Xbox might be a better console(with kinect and all the voice features) but PS4 has some exclusive games I really want.

Agree with this 100%. Also can't justify spending that kind of money when I'm no where near done with everything I have/want for the 360.

i also want a Wii U, but I'm waiting for a new Zelda game.

So, how is the Xbox one working out for people after a year of use?

We are way behind on consoles as the kids are still young and still enjoying the Wii. It has given us plenty of enjoyment and we got our money's worth out of it...but it may be time to upgrade. Heck, we don't even have Blue Ray, so that would come in handy. The Wii would get designated to the second Big Screen TV for the virtual consoles we have on it (Atari, Sega, Nintendo etc).

They mainly play games like Terraria, Minecraft, Skylanders as they are young, about to be 8 and 10, so no Call of Duty or Grand Theft Auto for them yet. Those games appear to be relatively cheap and it appears we can swap over all the Skylanders characters, possibly the portal and just repurchase the actual disc.

So my question is: Is the Xbox One, they current console to get? And, is the Kinetic worth the $100 upgrade?

It doesn't play Blu-rays , but it sounds like if you want to upgrade, the Wii U is what you're looking for. It's backwards compatible with all of your old Wii stuff, including games and peripherals. Plus, the exclusives available on Wii U are awesome; Mario Kart, Smash Bros., Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country, etc.

The xbox one is fantastic, my 8 year old sister loves mincraft on it. I am a Halo fan.

The Kinect is NOT worth the extra $$$. Not unless your family plays just dance games.

Just watched a Rio on blu-ray. And yes the kinect is DEFINITELY worth it. Especially if you work hard and want to be really lazy when you're off. You can pretty much command everything. Plus you need it for all of the fitness apps (Xbox fitness is how I got my wife to agree to getting me one). I owned both PS3 and Xbox 360 and was always a better fan of Sony because online gaming didn't cost me anything. Now however, you pay yearly on both systems for online. My biggest reason to buy it was, being in the military, all of my soldiers have the Xbox. Not a single ps4. Gotta keep up with the young bucks. Lol.

Fair point! I do use my xbox Kinect for the workouts, but I was not sure if his kids would really need it.

Xbox One bundle from Costco is in our house, that was fast. It came with the console, 2 remotes, 1 play and charge and a hardcopy of Call of Cuty Ghosts.

They are playing Trap Team right now, then Minecraft is next. Got them set up with MS Accounts for gamer tags, not LIVE yet.

We have the Wii Fitness board and although they play some of the moving games, they mainly play side scrolling games on it like Sonic, Mario etc. If the time ever comes to get the Kinect, we can always add it as a stand alone.

And now we have a BluRay, so that's good.

Had ours for less than 36 hours. Took it back and got a total refund.

kids + live + unknown pervs with filthy language = disaster

We won't do to much online gaming. I know that sounds crazy for an Xbox or PS3/4 but it's more to play the games locally.

For now, they are happy playing against each other or when friends come over.

My little one is just discovering the Wii. Daddy plays PS4 online with family, and she likes to say "HI" to them in the microphone.

Yeah, my kids are itching to trying the microphone. The Wii served us well and will continue to as we all still like the Virtual Emulators it can play.

We have the entire Atari 2600 library of games at our disposal. Nothing beats a good game of Berzerk. They've played them all and love them, but have no idea how to comprehend that the 2600 was groundbreaking for us as kids and have no real idea what it means to "go to an arcade". I'd head dowtown with my brother on Saturdays with a roll of quarters, hit up Saratoga or Mothers and spend the afternoon at the arcade. There were a few goods ones in Winnipeg, but I forget them now. Grant Park mall used to have a good one, as did the basement of PoloPark in the bowling alley.

The first person shooters they make now, have nothing on this :001_cool:

MS has a LOT of protections for kids. Get them their own profile (and the kinect will recognize their faces) and lock down any areas you don't want. Or just don't buy xbox live gold and they can't use any multiplayer features anyway.

But yeah, most MP games are verbal filth, no doubt about it.

Thanks for the tips. The first thing we did was set up profiles, gammer tags and set some restrictions. Now when they want to play one of the current games (Skyalders, Minecraft) it asks for adult permission and pin number. Those are ones we are comforatable with them playing, even though they are not 10+ yet, so I set them to always allow.

We started out with a two week trial on Gold, but will probably just use it to grab the free/discounted games they offer and see if we want to subscribe for a year. Costco.ca has the yearly Gold Live for $45, so it may be worth it to get the bonuses they offer every now and then.

The pirates den!

Ah yes...The Pirate Den. I used to go there once a week when I was at Grant Park HS for shops class (woodworking etc). :w00t:

My son wants to spend Christmas money on an XBOX One. He has an XBOX 360 now. From my understanding, he would need to keep both consoles because the ONE is not backwards compatible for all his old games?

Also, I assume the ONE doesn't offer much in the way of local multiplayer conent? I was thinking about a WII-U instead since I think that is something he could play with friends if they come over to the house.
