WTG final pass after ATG

I read somewhere if you really hv to do atg then do a final pass wtg after the atg to make the grains back to normal(some kinda remediation or work around )

anyone knows abt it or doing this? I have just started and monitoring if it makes any diff

share your thoughts

p/s: it takes 5 passes for me incl this for bbs(4 if skip the final wtg-the new found theory)...wtg, xtg-side to nose, xtg-nose to side, atg, wtg....if i dont do nose to side and straight to atg i will get razor burns...I dont mind extra passes as long skin is happy abt it and avoid burns/irritation/cuts

Doens't make much sense to me... ATG is inherently going to be closer, the final WTG pass is cutting nothing. I can't see how it would do anything.

To me that final wtg pass would be a time waster and possibly just be a little extra unneeded friction on the face. Might work for you though.

I also read something similar a long time ago. I doubt there's anything to it, but you should give it a go and see how it turns out.

That doesn't seem like it would do much. I do sometimes go WTG on the last buff pass but only if I feel any stubble in that direction. I normally end on an XTG pass to make sure my jawline is nice and smooth.

It works for me.

I've been doing a final WTG for quite some time. Like you, it takes me about 5 passes to get the shave I like. I skip the 1st WTG and start with the same two XTG passes that you use, 2 ATG passes, then the final WTG pass with long strokes. I find it evens things up, gives it a final polish. If I was woodworking, I'd say it takes off the high spots. It especially helps on my chin and neck. Everyone doesn't need it, but for those of us with heavy beards, it helps.

Also, I don't think it realigns the grain back to normal. I think they would go back anyway. Otherwise, our whiskers would reverse direction with every shave! :)

Sounds like propaganda from the soap industry to make us use our soap or cream faster.

Have you ever considered buffing instead of 5 passes? Have you also tried a different razor?
Good luck to you.

good idea to skip the 1st wtg...never thought of that ...will check it out if that works for me...

Once you have the futur you can play around a bit more with the aggressiveness of it and you may find you get good results with less passes. A more aggressive razor does not mean more razor burn/irritation.

With some care I can get a DFS with one WTG pass of the Muhle R41 (probably the most aggressive DE razor), to me, less passes = less chance of irritation.
