Writing instruments, you say?

Being where I am, I can't comment or ask many questions about what seems to be the most prevalent issue here, booze, as I am disallowed access to it.

HOWEVER, since I write a lot, I thought it would be fun to get another fountain pen. I decided on something that seemed like it would take dust and being dropped well, a Lamy Safari.

When I finally got it I noticed that I didn’t like the nib and would like something that's a little more like my old calligraphy pens.

On their site, they list a few fine point calligraphy nibs. I've asked but never got an answer from them so maybe someone here will know.

Will these 1.1 nibs from the "Joy," series fit onto a Safari?

I believe all of their nibs perform the same way....without flex. I have a Safari and enjoy the way it writes. It seems to glide across the page very easy. It's much different from my Pelikan 1000 though.

Far as I know, all the nibs for the base Safari's are the same.

Even if they aren't, Swisher Pens (and I'm sure other retailers do as well) sells separate Lamy Safari nibs from 1.1 to 1.9mm. I believe these are the same as the calligraphy nibs, as they're silver, rather than the black steel.

As SilkySmooth said, there is absolutely 0 useful flex in Lamy nibs. But, the broader Italics get some pretty healthy line variation thanks to the very thin horizontal construction of them. I love my 1.5mm Italic, though it tends to be rather wet.

The 1.1 italic nibs should fit just fine in a safari. Many folks use them like that. Good choice on the safari as a beat around pen. I love mine for kicking around in my pocket. Really tough, doesn't leak, and as long as you don't jump on it or drive a truck over it, it'll keep going strong.

If you haven't already, check out Fountain Pen Network. And prepare to spend a few hours poking around the review section.

And thanks for your service, by the way. Good luck out there.
