WOW! I think I have a NEW favorite razor!

I recently purchased a Gillette NEW LC Ball-End razor from B&B member Locham. I really liked my NEW Red & Black Deluxe, and thought I would try one of these. (First and foremost, Locham is a stellar member here. He went above and beyond I feel and made this razor very affordable to me and shipped it very fast.) The razor arrived yesterday, and I thought I would try it out today. I loaded it up with a Gillette 7 O'Clock Black and tried it out. (Using VDH soap and a Parker Badger brush as is my norm.)
WOW! Incredible shave! I am talking BBS smooth all over and not a single weeper or nick. Incredibly close shave and so smooth to use. I never thought I would ever really like a Ball-End razor. Something about them just looked off to me, (Perhaps the skinny handle). I was terribly wrong. I think this razor will become my new daily use razor. I loved the balance and feel of using it. Just an incredible experience! I wanted to share this amazing shave with everyone here. Count me in as a Gillette NEW LC Ball-End fan!

Both are customs but I still like them just the same

I love these razors, but for an entirely different reason than yours.

I've never gotten a great shave out of these. Why? I don't know. But I love these for their looks more than anything else. The different cases they came in. The different sets they've been a part of. That just gets me for some reason.

I'm glad you got a good shave out of it! I know a lot of people love these OC Gillette NEWs.

The LC New was my intro to Open Combs and I've never looked back. You will enjoy it! That's a very nice razor.

Yours is a very early NEW probably from 1929 or 1930. It has no patent numbers on it which means it was made before the Gillette/Probak Merger. My daily shaver is an identical model only I use a Bull Mastiff handle with it and a nickel plated cap.

I think I was unclear in my euphoria of my amazing shave. When I said I didn't like them because of the way they look, I meant as to how it would work for me shaving. I absolutely love the old Gillettes! I think it is great that my love for one thing, (a great close shave with a DE), has worked it's way into another love, (collecting vintage Gillette razors.) I gave up collecting things as a hobby when I was younger, but the bug bit me when I got into DE shaving. Sorry if I was unclear. I think the razor itself is a work of art!

I used to think OC's were just barbaric remnants before people knew what worked. After using them, they are very much my prefered razor. Absolutely love them!! The Gillette NEWs are some of the best! Especially the LC's.

I love my NEW sc and lc.... I get excellent shaves with both.

New is the only open comb razor I like. It's not my daily razor but I really enjoy using it when I skip a day without a shave. I prefer the Goodwill. Maybe I'm wrong but it feels smoother than both sc and lc regular New.

From my experience, the new was good with the 7o'clock Blacks but simply incredible with Derby's. only with the new and the tech, which seem to share the top plate that keeps the blade exposure at a minimum.. .. at least I think so...

I was lucky enough to buy a BRW Bull Mastiff Deluxe with LC New head from cooncatbob. It's my favorite razor by far. I've been using it every day for the past two weeks and getting DFS+ to BBS shaves each time. Razor evolution could have stopped right there and I would be happy!

Same here. This is my current favorite. It's a Merkur 42C but with a weber bulldog handle.
