Would I enjoy EJ89L?

Looking on getting another razor for Christmas. I have the Merkur Futur (setting on 2.5) but don't wont to spent as much I did on the Merkur. Besides the merkur had so many craftsmanship issues I am not looking for another Merkur.

If you're using a Futur at 2.5, I suspect an EJ DE89 will feel too mild to you. According to the blade gap chart - http://wiki.badgerandblade.com/Double-Edged_Safety_Razors_Ranked_by_Blade_Gap - the DE89 has a blade gap of .76mm and the Futur at 2.5 is somewhere between 1.19mm and 1.35mm.

If you don't want another Merkur, perhaps a Slim or a Fatboy would be right for you. If you want a modern razor, what about a Muhle R41? Sounds like you can handle a very aggressive razor.

It's my favorite razor... I've hardly used my Futur since I got it... which reminds me I've been neglecting it lately might be time to load up a blade in it.

Not to knock the lined Jagger 89 as I own one but you may find it too mild if you are used to a Futur at that exposure setting (I also own 2 Futur razors)

If you like your Futur at 2.5 then you may want to consider a Joris or Fatip which should give you about the same shave as your Futur at that setting. Both of those razors use the same head. Joris is a higher end (better finished) razor but the Fatip is far less expensive.

This is my lined Joris Palladium if you want to see what they look like

It really depends on what you are looking for. It is very well made, the finish is spectacular, the balance is wonderful and it delivers a great shave. Too mild? It puts the blade on your skin...the rest is up to you. I would say "it" will deliver as close a shave as any other razor but that isn't the way it works. "You" can deliver as close a shave with this razor as any other razor.

Thank you for all the replies. I think I will try one. I would spent the $38 and try, the Mühle is at $60, little too much.

What about American made? How is the weber dlc quality wise compared to the Edwin jagger? I double check in the last few years on my purchases if I could buy American of equal quality for the same price. Would I have worry about rust on the weber?

Weber is stainless so no worries about rust. Most razors are plated brass or pot metal so they have no issues with rust either.

I have a Weber but I am on the fence about whether I like it or not. Too many razors.... Not enough whiskers to go around for all of them :001_smile
