What's new

Worst ebay title EVER-bought it anyway-what is it?

I saw a listing on ebay the title of which was:

Antique Gillette Manual Wide-Tooth Hair Thinning Shaving Tool

and the description was equally appealing:

ANTIQUE GILLETTE SHAVING TOOL
This item looks like something you'd
use on your dog's coat, which makes it more than
acceptable for human use, in my opinion.
I think it is a hair thinner or neck shaver type tool
manufactured by
GILLETTE
COLOR: SILVER
VERY GOOD CONDITION

Now the only part of that which is true is that it does in fact have a silver color and it is in fact a "shaving tool". As you can see from the pics, however, the condition is more accurately described as rode hard and put up wet. In spite of the lousy description and the even worse picture, for 9.99 and free shipping, I had to have my curiousity satisfied. Plus, I've had some terrific shaves lately from OC's and, well, at this point I'm just excusing stupid behavior so I'll stop.

I cannot find an exact replica of this anywhere which leads me to believe it's a Frankenrazor. The handle appears to be a Fat Handled Tech, but they never shipped with a long open comb head did they?
Anyone want to take a stab at what it is?

One other note. It does have the Gillette diamond logo on the head and made in u.s.a. as well.

It's a frankenrazor, as you surmised.
The handle is from a fat-handled tech and the head is an old-type open comb.
I'm not sure that I'd call it in "very good condition", either.
Either way, I'd bet it probably gives pretty good shaves.

there is no way i would use that to "thin out" my dogs hair. are these people nuts??? :a6:sometimes i think people should do a little ore research before they list things. i mean, what if someone had bought it for their dog

Thanks Chester and Krona,

I thought of writing the seller and chastising his description, but really, I'm the nutcase. It was seriously an instance of curiousity overriding common sense.

Fido would probably be well-shaven. :letterk1:

+2, it will shave as good as a old style Gillette (which isn't bad). It just won't win any beauty contests in the process.

GREAT "creative" eBay title.

Would you have even looked if it said....

Pile of old mismatched non usable razor parts....

Not only would I have looked, I might have had a higher max bid. Makes me wonder who the sucker was born a minute after and a minute before me.
