I never could get a smooth shave with a feather in the full Nodachi. Much more comfortable with a less sharp blade. Feathers are excellent in the Masamune though.
I think most often times, positive exposure=blade forward/feel. With Henson somehow being an exception.
RR Lupo DLC is also an exception.

OK, I tried two new razors today...the RazoRock Lupo .72 and the Fatip Testina Gentile .
The Lupo did not live up to the hype...although it did, in a sense, live up to its name. The "Wolf" did not bite me (thank God) but it did drag my face around like a dead carcass! Here's what it felt like:
Other than that, it was a great shaver!
The Fatip was a mixed bag...one of the best and worst shavers I've tried.
The Good: Comfort was at the level of Henson, the Holy Grail of Comfort.
The Bad: What the heck?! I've tried almost 30 razors so far...and never have I ever had any difficulty with the balance or handle of a razor...until now! The Fatip handle was too short and heavy
The Ugly: Honestly, I don't normally care what a razor looks like. But, this thing is ugly. Like they say: "Beauty is only skin deep, but ugly is to the bone!"

In Italy they would say: other razors have several defects, the Fatip has just one, it’s ugly
I don’t care for the Grande Chrome, but I find the retro looks of the Piccolo in Nickel and Gold quite attractive. Most importantly, they are fantastic shavers and for the price in brass construction they are hard to beat

Interesting that you didn't find the Lupo .72 comfortable. It's super smooth to me for having positive blade exposure. There's other things I don't like about it, but comfort wasn't one of them. I have the Gentile as well and find it smooth and decently efficient, though not on the Henson scale. I have the gunmetal Grey one and it looks ok....it's a decent razor overall but it doesn't get much use in my den.

I agree that of all the mild razors I’ve used, the Feather AS-D2 is the mildest. I stopped using mine for a long time and nearly sold it last summer. But this spring I started using it again, and voila! Once I learned to use it properly I started to appreciate it more and more. Now I can shave every day and get a damn fine shave without irritation! Now I’ve put most of my other razors aside and have been using it daily with Feather blades. Great razor!!

Yea, handle length is why I can't do a lot of vintage razors myself without swappable handles. I have a lovely Gem 1912 as well as a Schick Injector Type E. Both lovely to look upon but I have learned over time that short handles and I don't get along.

With regards to the Lupo .72 and the Feather AS-D2, I'm going to try them both again with different blades. If they start pulling again, I'm going to stop immediately, take the blade out and transfer it to the Henson. If the Henson is as smooth as ever, then I will know it's not the blade, it's the razor.
Do you ride the cap? I find the lupo 72 very smooth - similar to the new King C Gillette. The KCG is a 'did I put a blade in this?' kind of razor and for the price you should try one! I digress, the one thing I learnt quickly with the lupo is that it is built for riding the guard - the cap is a no go for me.

Among the more than 200 models I have tried, when I want to shave when my skin is injured, I will use O.R.E.N. Razor, one point plate, proguard blade. All stainless steel, with three plates, blade floating system, large skin contact area, less than $50.
IMO DE Blade has limitations. If you break out of the DE universe, you won't miss something better!

Curious to hear HiPowerRon's comments, but the general consensus from others seems to be that it works well at shallower angles (riding the cap) and with Feather blades. I got only so-so shaves out of mine and sold it, but it is such a wonderfully built razor that I bought it again with the intention of giving it another go. I returned to DE shaving in June of last year, as a result of now needing to be more clean shaven for work with daily wearing of N95 masks, and had re-entered the fray coming across the then reasonably new King C Gillette which you recently tried.
I've been eyeing the Alpha Outlaw mild version but, you now have me eyeing the ATT Windsor among others. And yes I have read all at this point 29 pages

Can you elaborate more on the OREN razor, i.e. comfort/mildness, ease of shaving angle, etc? I tried both the Vector and the Twig - for me, they both felt too harsh.

Shallow angle (place the end cap on your face & rotate the head towards the guard until the blade starts to cut) & Feather blade.
