Woods of Windsor - another fougère

Woods of Windsor is interesting in that it doesn't open with a sharp citrus blast like so many other fragrances. The citrus instead comes out fairly muted and quickly moves to the middle and base notes which develop into a nice dry woody/leathery scent. Not green, pine or citrusy enough for me, and too close to sandalwood for my wife. I'll pass on this one, but I think it would appeal to a lot of guys.

From the Basenotes website:

Top Notes: Lemon, Verbena, Lemongrass, Orange, Bergamot
Middle Notes: Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove, Neroli
Base Notes: Woody

Mitch,

I've thought about trying this before but I thought that it was out of production.

Given the notes that you like, have you tried Pino Silvestre? Beyond picking up the pine and citrus, it (to me anyway) doesn't go on with a thick, alcohol blast.

According to Basenotes, Woods of Windsor is still in production and I've also seen it at one place here locally in the DC region. As I said, not a bad scent - just not for me.

I LUUUV Pino Silvestre! It's awesome "pine in a bottle" as far as I'm concerned. Took it with me on our recent vacation and Cindy enjoyed me wearing it the whole trip, even in the compact rental car and tiny motel rooms that we frequented.

I bought a decant of WoW and used it once. SWMBO took one whiff and asked when I was getting my catheter. Sold it the next day.

Woods of Windsor was my very first shaving soap. My wife bought it at a department store with my brush as a Christmas gift about 20 years ago. It came with its own very nice mug.

It's still available with a mug. I believe I've read that the soap you get with the mug nowadays is reformulated without tallow but the refill soap puck is still tallow based.

Just so you know.
