Has anyone used wood hardener to stabilize horn scales? I have a very early set that, at some point, were left in water, which resulted in some serious warping at the butt of the scales. It also has a split at the pivot hole. I've soaked and straightened the scales, epoxied the crack, and done a preliminary rub-down with 400 grit wet-dry.
They look good, but I'm inclined to make them "eternal" by polymerizing them, if possible. Has anyone done this before? Just looking for any definite reason, "not-to". TIA...
