Witch Hazel

I'm not too new to wet shaving but I am new to all of the variety of products and B&B. I've been noticing many fellow B&B'ers that some have Witch Hazel in their rotation but I don't know how some of you use it as.

I like the smell but how do most of you use it?

Though I don't use Witch Hazel everytime I shave. Recently I have been using my Ogallala Bay Rum Aftershave splash most days which has Witch Hazel in it anyway so when using that I don't use Witch Hazel in addition to it.

I'm using the Dickinson's 'stale tea and cheap vodka' stuff. Smell evaporates very quickly, but WH is a nice toner. I don't know what its supposed to do, but since I've been using it - with good shave soaps (have used a balm or moisturiser for years), my skin feels and looks much better.

I'm in my 40s and still prone to the occasional bad skin moment, but not since I've been DE shaving with all this stuff.
