I just ended my first couple of weeks with Williams and am a few shaves into the VDH.There seems to be less polarising on the VDH but I would like to see some figures!

IMO the VDH is a much better soap. I want to like Williams because I like the scent but I can't stand the performance.

I like both... if for no other reason than they are the only shaving soaps I use.... I really should order some stuff online to get more variety. :thumbup1:

Well considering that the current formulation of Williams is useless in my hands, VDH Deluxe wins by light years.

Actually I have tried a fair number of soaps, and still enjoy using VDH Deluxe quite a bit. :thumbup1:

I almost never use VdH and occasionally Williams.

VdH is so blah....it works OK, but even spiced up to Van der Spice it is for me a blah soap.

Williams I prefer...though it will probably take me 5 or more years to use a puck.

I have no problems using both of them. VDH is a little faster to lather. I like them both but use my other soaps most of the time.

I can get good shaves with either, but I enjoy using Williams more, because of the challenge.

But seriously, having a Williams vs. VDH poll when there are so many great soaps out there for not much more cash is like having people choose between Beefaroni and Beefaghetti when they could get some penne with broccoli, chicken, and sun dried tomatoes sprinkled with asiago just for the asking.

Some days, however, I do just want to pop open a can of Beefaroni and chow down.

Listen to me I know what I'm talking about (in a New York accent!) Anybody can get some good foam out of williams, and it has a distinct soapy smell, but can be a little more drying for some. VDH foams better, smells a little more powdery (some say like grey flannel) and is more moisturizing, but has a creepy color to it. The fun thing about VDH is that you can add your favorite cologne or aftershave to give it a scent which you can't do with williams. They both balance out with different goods and bads. Cut the crap and enjoy!!!

I used VDH this morning with a Surrey boar brush. It performed flawlessly with a Chinese Schick blade in an E type Schick injector.

Both work just fine. Both are towards the bottom level of soaps available for general purchase.

The VDH works great, but I cannot get past the AquaNet hairspray smell. It really makes me quite sick. Williams, on the other hand, smells terrific (if you like citronella mosquito candles, lol :001_rolle) and can be "fixed" quite easily with a little bit of shaving oil.

You are probably right but since I have these two (for me) 'exotic' soaps since a couple of weeks in my den I am trying them out now. Most posts I have seen are very 'black or white' concerning Williams and more in the middle (at the positive side) about VDH. But since not everybody is posting I came up with the poll to get a bit more insight. Now I tried and liked Williams but I am afraid the relation between me and VDH is going to get nowhere. Still trying to fix it but I am glad to know I am not (again) part of an obscure minority here! :tongue_sm
