What's new

will have my first new straight soon.

I am new to wet shaving and recently got myself an Edwin Jagger chatsworth and was hooked right away. I decided I also want some straight razors. I ordered one of Seraphims razors off of the BST a few days ago but decided to order a fancy TI as well

the Ti is coming from the province next to mine and the Seraphims blade will be comming from the states and coming through customs so the ti will get here first and it will be my first straight. I plan on using the Seraphims to use but to also hone my skills with a hone.

I am
#1 a Canadian
#2 I am a Farmer who grows wheat and other grains
# 3 I also speak french (second language)

So it was an easy decision for me as to what would be a great choice.

I ordered a Thiers issard 5/8 Le Canadien with Wheat field spine

can't wait!

I have a whole lot of reading to do trying to decide if i should get a coticule or Japanese wet stones or get some dmt plates and finish with lapping film or a strop and pastes.

Nice first buy!! As a fellow Canadian I'm also on the lookout for a "Le Canadien" straight (on the cheap side if possible)! I'd need one with some fishes on there I guess since I'm from NB ;)
I imagine you bought it from Fendrihan shave-ready? Anyway good luck with the first shaves, its a real fun adventure!

Actually I got this razor off ebay,

Fendrihan did not have any with the Wheat field spine and that was quite important to me, the 6/8 they had had no spine work and the spine work on the 6/8-7/8 (which is the size I really wanted) did not look as nice to me as the wheat field design and being called the Wheat field design is pretty cool on top of that for me. the dimple actually looks just like a piece of chaff (the part that envelopes the seed).

I ordered my EJ Chatsworth from Fendrihan ,and just today ordered an EJ 89 octagon DE and accessories for my best fiends birthday from them as well (his GF and I are splitting the cost)

so I've only recently become infectious with RAD and I've already spread RAD and it mutated into SRAD. and Im feeling a case of HAD coming on too........you guys are trouble!!!......so um...can penicillin cure that or what???

Anybody got a nice Le Gelot they want to get rid of? I swear its the last one!!! Ill never buy another razor after this one I swear.....

So is there a razors anonymous?

You have no clue what you got yourself into...in January I had 0 razor. Now, I think I have 14 (I think... I need to count them back because I received so many lately!)

Welcome to the club! lol

Wow. Didn't know TI personalized their razors for their Canadian customers. That's hardly fair.

That is a beauty though.

I Got my TI razor today and did my first straight shave, I was a bit nervous but took my time and managed not to cut/nick myself

Had the stiptic pencil on standby though...

I am not well versed in edges but I don't consider this razor to be shave ready, compared to a de it was quite dull so I am going to send it out to get honed by a pro.

even though it was a pretty rough shave...there was something about it that I think was very cool. can't wait to try it with a well honed razor.

I had a few lather issues, I do a mixture of soap and cream and think i will be going only cream for a while. I had more soap then i usually do and the lather dried out on my face (we have very hard water here even though we have a soft water system)

If the razor is pulling when nearly flat against the skin it needs honing.

Your lather wants to be on the wet side. If it does not easily rinse off the blade it is too dry and your shaves will not be as smooth.

If you have a crox pasted strop that may be all it needs but I don't care for crox myself.
