Who makes a brass razor that bends the blade similar to a Henson or a Gillette tech? I keep thinking that Henson will get wise and make a brass razor, but so far they have not done so. Any comparisons would be welcome.
I've been wondering about this razor. Do you have one? How do you like it?I’m going to say the brass Karve Overlander is going to be your best bet.
I like it a lot. I was actually gifted one by a generous B&B member after we struck up a conversation through DMs. While my stable of razors was never large and was never high-end, I ended up getting rid of all of my other razors except for the aluminum Henson+ and the brass Karve OL. I'll just post some thoughts on each vs. the other.I've been wondering about this razor. Do you have one? How do you like it?
Thanks. Some good info there. Getting one will be an expensive operation, so I will need to save my pennies.I like it a lot. Henson - The razor is mild, but still fairly efficient. There is only one correct shave angle, but it's pretty intuitive to find. It's very LIGHT at 36g as a complete aluminum razor; although, it's possible to use a SS handle on the aluminum head. Personally, I have to be careful not to overcompensate for the light weight with additional pressure. Blade clamping is excellent. I actually like the grip on the original Henson. Some don't, but I do. Easy to care for. Rinse and you're done.
Karve OL - This razor is also mild, and in my mind, a touch more efficient because of a larger shave angle. It's not a huge shave angle, but it's not as locked in as the Henson. (For clarity, I'm not one of those that say that the locked in angle of the Henson is a bad thing.). This razor is HEAVY at 110g. Recently I had used nothing but the heavy brass OL for 2 weeks, and I deicded to pick up the Henson and even with a SS handle on it, it still felt like I was whipping it around quickly because of the weight. To me, the heavier weight keeps me from using too much pressure. Like the Henson, blade clamping is excellent. I would say that the Karve is smoother. The grip isn't super knurly, but after having the OL for some time I thought to myself one day, "This razor has never slipped in my hand. Great design." It's brass. If you want a polished look then you have some work to do. To me, it's a tool, not a showpiece. So I just dry it really well and it has a nice bronze look to it.
I really do like both, and it would be hard to pick a winner/preference. They're both great, but different. More intuitive? Henson. Smoother? Karve. Efficiency? Karve, by a hair. Fun? Both. End result? Same.
Nice comparison pictureLeft to Right, Dscosmetic V92/Henson AL13+/The Goodfellas' Smile Bayonetta/Henson AL13++/Aylsworth Kopparkant
I think TGS Bayonetta clamp the blade very similar to Henson, V92 and Kopparkant are close to Tech style.

As always YMMV, but if you have any specific questions, I’ll be happy to give my opinion.Thanks. Some good info there. Getting one will be an expensive operation, so I will need to save my pennies.
Yates are nice but SANCTIFIED BOVINE! those things are expensive!Brass Yates 921-M or H would be similar. Yates bends the blade like the Henson. BYOR to get the brass version.

DE pics with blade, interesting?
I might be alone here yet I enjoy seeing the side profiles of various razors with blade installed. Enjoy and add more pictures if you like these like I do. Cheers and very happy sessions to all!
