Who likes their Simpson Wee Scot?

What do you think about the Wee Scot?

  • Surprisingly great brush! I use it at least once in a while.

  • Too small. I sold mine/no longer use it.

  • It's just a novelty item, so I would never buy one.

  • Oh no! Now I'm intrigued!

I really enjoy mine and find it gets too little attention on B&B. Just thought I'd solicit others for their general impressions of this great little brush.

I only use soaps, and I face lather. I can build enough lather for two passes plus touch up (my usual routine). It's a little monster, this brush, and it's the only Simpson I've kept in rotation. I ditched a CH1 and kept the WS, in fact. I imagine it would be difficult to use if one has large hands. Otherwise, I don't find its small size a liability at all. Quite the opposite.

Anyone else have thoughts on this one?

This is what made me want to start a discussion about the WS.

I dont have an official wee scott, but ive a similar vintage one.

its great, these tiny brushes really lather above their weight

Despite its size, it is a very well made brush. The hair on mine looks very much like I would expect to see in a super badger, even though it's stamped as best.

It works, it lathers like a little beast, but I never use it. I think I've actually shaved with it 2 or 3 times, I really just keep it as a display piece.

100% agree. A beautiful, well made brush and the badger does look and feel more like super than some lower grade.

As mdunn said above, it lathers above its weight but unfortunately I don't think that's quite good enough for day-to-day use so I voted "no longer use it". It does work well enough that it *could* be used day-to-day but I am not going to give up a single day of my Rooney for it!

Someone did ask to buy mine but I guess I asked too much because they didn't go for it at my price. I asked pretty high because I am not really too interested in selling it. I like its looks! Maybe someday it will be part of a nice compact travel kit with my short-handled GEM Junior Bar.

I just ordered one from "The Shoebox". I have been following the posts on this one for a few years. I made the purchase mainly because the maker put his "John Handcock" on it. I will vote upon its first use....Thank you for your poll..

Definitely a great brush. I have my Wee Scot in rotation with my handmade brush...so it gets used 3-4 days per week.

I really thought it would be a travel brush but it holds its own against a 23mm knot just fine.

I remember reading Corey's Shaveblog and wanting to try one, but I never got around to it. Maybe I'll pick one up off the B/S/T eventually

how small is small? The picures do not seem to really depict the size. How is it next to say a Chubby1? Btw the shoebox guy is pretty cool. I ordered from him once and he upgraded my shipping simply because I ordered on a holiday. Literally he said he upgraded my shipping so I could enjoy the product faster.

Cool Gary at shoebox seems to have the best price. Just ordered one for my trip oversees. Lord knows the Chub 3 is too big.

how small is small?

Here's a few size comparison photos I found

It is small enough to use a 35mm film can as your soaking "mug".

No matter how many times you read the descriptions and and "visualize" the brush, when you take it out of the box you will likely remark how tiny it is.

It definitely is not a novelty item...it is a serious brush especially for face lathers. Conservative of soaps, it does require some finesse to get the most out of it, but a simple joy to use.

Every time I use mine it makes me smile.

Here is another shot....with its soaking "mug"

I've been using mine pretty much exclusively since I got it a couple weeks ago. Great for face lathering. Wouldn't want to try to whip up lather in a bowl with this puppy, though.

I LOVE my wee scot. I have been using mine daily for probably a year now. I was hesitant for a while before buying it, but every time I read Corey's postings, I got excited about it.

I'm finding I'm more of a small brush guy.
