What's new

Who is the resident tea guru?

Seems I've seen a few of you that have a bit of tea knowledge.

I'm a tea newb. Looking to get started. What do you suggest and most importantly--where do you buy?

I see tea places in the malls like Teavana, but can't help but assume there are other less expensive alternatives!

Thanks for all the help in advance.

Our own Hobbesoxon is a true expert. We have many, many other very knowledgeable members as well. Check out the Cafe, it's the best spot for Tea Chat on the net.

I was direct to www.specialteas.com by many of the fine folks here and I have been very happy with their combination of quality and price.

What/ where is the cafe you speak of?

I appreciate the link and help! I've seen a lot of talk about teas here so I knew I was in good hands posting that question.

It's one of our subforums, it's specifically for Coffee and Tea. Use the link in the post above.

Thanks. I took a look. I'd seen this before, but didn't know it was a sub-forum. Now, I know....

There's a ton of information there. I need to take some courses on tea. I've recently had a few tea tastings and acquired the desire to acquire some teas. Looking forward to learning and tasting.

I must tell myself I will not create a tea obsession nor will I develop TAD.

I used to drink tea a lot - before discovering the joys of home-roasted coffee. However, the tea source I used a lot was Ten Ren (http://www.tenren.com/); they aren't the end-all be-all of tea gear, but they sure do have some nice teas and the lower grades are quite affordable.

You acquire tea knowledge by drinking tea. Use what you read about tea as guidance, but not true knowledge.

"Ten Ren, expensive" New Chinese Proverb repeated to me by several people in Chinatown, NYC.

Can't speak for NYC, but the online Ten Ren is much more affordable than the local Ten Ren shop around here - as much as 70 percent cheaper in some cases.

I dont know where you live, but we have a great tea guy near us in NH, portsmouth tea. Marshall is a great resource.
