Who is responsible for a shedding used brush?

Hi all -
I wanted to get the opinion of the group on a situation.

I bought a Rooney 3/1 on the BST. Per the owner, it was 2.5 months old, had been purchased from VintageBlades, and had lost a few hairs at the beginning.

I used it once, decided it wasn't for me, and packaged it in a "Mystery Box" which I sold to a buyer in Singapore. On that one time I used it, it did not shed a hair. The person who bought it from me said that it has been shedding a hair or two on every shave since. He has shampooed it and that has not helped.

He contacted Jim at VB who generously offered him a $50 credit, but said that the buyer would need to pay for shipping both ways. However, VB doesn't ship to Singapore.

I haven't contacted the person who sold it to me, but my guess he wouldn't have any idea what to do about this situation either.

I told the person who bought the brush from me that I would go with whatever the group opinion is.

Thoughts?

It's no fun when a deal goes sour. This one's particularly complex. Cheers to you and to Jim for working to remedy the situation.

Can you act as the middle man and make the order with VB for the buyer from Singapore? Then you can ship it for him.

It would cost all of you a bit, but it would probably resolve the issue in a way where all the parties are satisfied.

No, I think that is probably the best way to go about it. Since VB doesn't ship to Singapore, that buyer of yours is going to need a middle man if that $50 credit is going to amount to anything. You're already in a prefect position to be that middle man, assuming all parties are okay with you doing so. So I say go for it.

What is most interesting is what you did not say. Despite the offer from Vintage Blades, the absence of your buying/selling price and other items such as the grade of the brush, what constitutes a mystery box, etc... Unless the brush was abused, the manufacturer of the brush is ultimately responsible for making good on a shedder. Some gentlemen think highly of Rooney brushes. While I do not, I think the purchaser needs to send it to Lee Sabini for resolution..

Not sure why all that matters, but here you go:
-I bought the brush for $55. My opinion of the brush quality was consistent with what the seller had told me. That is, it was in fantastic condition and had not bloomed. It is their super badger hair. I felt as though it was a great deal as the brush looked close to new, and sells for $75 new.

-A mystery box is just what it sounds like - a box in which the contents are unknown to the purchaser. These come up from time-to-time on the BST. In this particular one, I had packaged the Rooney with a unused puck of DR Harris almond shaving soap, an unused Nancy Boy travel-sized shaving cream, a Red Tip in excellent condition, a 60% full Body Shop original shaving cream, 20 Gillette Yellows (give or take a few), a 95% full Nivea ASB, and maybe a few other small items.

What's the general process for sending a brush back to its manufacturer?

Man, I think this falls under buyer beware. You have no idea how he is using it or how he has treated it, so if it did not shed for you then why would it shed for him? Unless it got damaged in shipping but I just dont see that happening.

I would have him go to Rooney not Jim.
