Whipped Dog vs Simpson Duke 2 in Best

Should I go with the Simpson Duke 2 in Best or should I save some cash and get a silvertip from Whipped Dog? Opinions please.

Both excellent, both versatile brushes. The Duke 2 is a bit smaller than my Whipped Dog and it's a bit denser. The density feels like obvious quality (or luxury), but the difference isn't that great. If you want a brush to soak up a lot of water and product for a six pass shave, the Simpsons is more likely to get you there. But you don't want to do that. Were it me, and were I buying new, I'd be happier I got the Whipped Dog at the price points.

Of course I'm learning the only answer round these parts is "buy both" because YMMV so much that you'll be bothered not being SURE. Then you can sell one for a small loss, having paid for the certainty. Or keep both. That's the ticket.

If you get a silver tip for face lathering make sure you set it very low (short loft).

I got a handle from Rudy and put a TGN top grade silvertip in it but it was set with very short loft which makes it a fantastic face lathering brush. I am traveling so I can't get you the specs on the brush but it did come out nice. The thing with a custom brush is get a handle that just knocks your sox off then build the rest to fit your needs. Try not to make a one size fits all brush, go for a specific function/type (face or bowl, cream or soap)

Well here it is. The whipped dog brush will be $31 total whereas the Duke 2 will be $76. I know that the Simpson is an awesome brush...but is it $45 better? $45 that I could spend on another whipped dog brush or soaps, etc? These hard decisions...

I love my whipped dog brush excellent for the price. I would buy the whipped dog first as it is a fraction of the price of the Simpson. If you don't like it, sell it on the BST for minimal loss and go for the Duke.

I can almost guarantee you will end up with more then another brush by the end of the year, so buy whichever now and buy the other one down the road.

keep in mind, Simpson prices may be increasing and that D2 for $85 now, may be over $100 when they restock their suppliers. I'm guessing prices will increase, but who knows.
