Which Scuttle to Get?

Well, I have been playing around with different lather bowls for a couple months now. I picked up a self-watering flower pot (bobe scuttle). While it kept my brush and lather nice and warm, the bowl was just too small to make a good lather.

I am looking at getting a "real" scuttle. While I know opinions will vary, what are the thoughts on Dirty Bird vs. Georgetown vs. Moss?

I currently bowl lather using either a 22 mm or 20 mm badger brush. I use both soaps and creams.

Thanks in advance for the advice!

I have the Moss and like it. I'm using it with both a 20 and I believe a 23mm brush and there is plenty of room. The outer bowl keeps the lather nice and warm during several passes. The only complaint I have is that the bottom seems to be a bit slick. I used to use a shave mug that must have been a little rougher on the bottom because it was easier to whip up a nice lather. It seems the lather wants to stick to the sides of the scuttle instead of the bottom, but I do manage to create a good lather with a bit more work.

I have a Georgetown G-5 on order and it looks like it is arriving on Monday. I'll post a review and maybe some pictures after I get it. I think the bottom has ridges on it, so I am curious to see if it is easier to form a lather.

I've had three different ones, there's a review of the Big Three here http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=60726&highlight=scuttle+moss+georgetown+dirty+review. There are also a number of scuttle's in the Reviews section. Right now I am using a small Moss scuttle from Sara Bonnyman, as a face latherer it is just ideal. Previously I had a Dirty Bird Brush Scuttle & Bowl, which is great for a bowl latherer & also keeps the brush toasty warm. I sold a Georgetown IV, as while it was suitable for bowl lathering it failed to keep the brush warm long enough for me using tap water .. I understand the new GT Version V addresses that ..

So, as always, YMMV, but as winter is upon us you do need a scuttle, at least here in the north

Definitely check the new G5 at Georgetown Pottery

Thanks for the info and the good comparison link. Has anyone had a change to try the Georgetown G5 to see if some of the issues are resolved?

The moss scuttle is great, but not for whipping up lather, more for face latherers or using her separate and great lathering bowl. The bowl isn't big enough for that.

My G5 is in the mail. Next week you should get a lot of comments on the New Georgetown. I own and use the G4, I believe, could be the G3, and like it very much, hence the purchase of the G5. I tried a Moss but since I make bowl lather it was just an xtra bowl on the counter. Did keep the lather HOT tho. Sometimes too much heat.
