I recommend the 3" strop so you don't have to learn the X pattern. The width of the blade is 3" so all you have to do is go back and forth.
$36.88 is a low price for a quality strop. You will likely nick and cut the strop learning, so you don't want to spend too much. You can get replacement leather for $21.50 http://shop.starshaving.com/product.sc?productId=112&categoryId=2. I have replaced the leather on mine twice.
I have a couple of more expensive strops but I won't use them until I get to where I don't nick and cut them so much. That's why I've got the Big Daddy until I can stop my destructive ways.
I'd probably get the TM. Even his less expensive stuff is made with great care and a perfectionists eye. My first hang strop was a TM beginner, and it served me well to learn with.
And if you don't end up slicing it up you can keep it for a travel strop, or pass it on to another newb.
25.00 for a Tony Miller made strop is hard to beat IMO. 1 and 3 will work just as well for you too, so any choice is the right one...but 2 is the best. IMO of course
