Which Gillette is this?

Where is it located? Underneath?

All I find is Reg U.S. PAT.OFF.

Gillette (logo) MADE IN USA

Take the head apart and it says: PAT. NOS. ON PACKAGE

If it had a date code it would be underneatth. Sounds like you have a pre-1950 Tech. :) (That's not a bad thing...)

That looks exactly like my 1932 "Made In Canada" techs.

Do they shave well?

Sweet score at $4.50, I suppose.

There was a Gold Plated Gillette for $6.50 but I left it there. Along with a Schick Injector with a mint/ pistachio green handle and gold head. It was $6.50 too.

I really like mine (it's my main razor now, after retiring my Knack), it is very non-aggressive which has been nice for a beginner like myself.

YMMV as the saying goes. I personally like the Tech because it's lightweight and offers a mild shave. I have 2 fat handle techs (1 silver, 1 gold), a British Tech variant and a Tech from the 60's (I think). I suppose my mini travel razor would be considered a Tech too. I consistently get good shaves from these razors

And where on it would you find a date code?
According to the Wiki, Gillette serial numbered razors until 1929, so they can be dated that way (doesn't apply on yours). And they began again with a date code (single letter and number on left and right of underside, where you found none) in the 3rd quarter of 1950. Tech being introduced in 1939 (or was it 1938?), and yours being undated means it is between those two dates.

Also, check the slots on the blade tray. I've read that if they are slightly triangular shaped (slight slope inward with peak in the center) that would date it to somewhere around 1945 or earlier. After that they became straight slots. I'm not sure if there is a known date for the introduction of the fat handle, or if they were used from the beginning.

I picked up one of those a few days ago in an antique store. Cool razor!

Fat handled tech, and if it was made before 1950 you won't find a date code. They started out in '42.
Fat handle started in '42? I'd heard the Tech started in '39, but Mr. Razor (quoted below) states '38.

Have a look at AsylumGuido's response in this thread

1932 was the patent year. The Tech comes 1938 on market.
Do you have any info on when the fat handle appeared on the Tech?

The fat handles were the original handles. The small heavy ball tip handle didn't appear until the 40's.

Thanks (yet again!). You are a HUGE source of information to this board, and a very gracious Gentleman indeed for putting up with and educating so many of us!

Can't believe you didn't pick up that sweet Schick injector. That baby is a great shaver!
